We kicked off our Summer Fun programs today with Mad Science! The scientist taught the participants about the 3 states of matter. He did a series of experiments and demonstrations using dry ice, and the kids loved it! Science is so much fun! 👨‍🔬🧊🧪

The Granite City 4-H Club will be meeting on Monday. They will be learning about chicken embryology and setting eggs in the incubator! 🥚🐣🐥

📸 Get your cameras ready! Entries for the 2026 Dr. Kim Ingold 4-H Photography Contest are now open!

This annual competition encourages NC 4-H youth and adult photographers to showcase their creativity, practice photography skills and capture meaningful moments through the camera lens.

Participants can enter photos in the following categories:
🍀 4-H in Action
🌄 Nature’s Beauty
🐾 Animals
⚫ Black and White

All entries must be submitted by August 14, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Participants should review the contest rules, category requirements, judging information and submission guidelines before entering.

This is the last week to register! All sewn items should be brought to our office by 5:00 pm on Thursday, May 28th. 🪡🧵👗

It’s your time to show off your sewing skills! 🧵🪡

The North Central District is hosting their Fashion R***e and they want YOU to be a part of it! It’s never been easier to be a part of this show either. You have the opportunity to sew something you can wear like a shirt, dress, pants, etc.. if you want in the Wearable Fashion Competition. You even get to walk a runway to show off your sewing skills at District Activity Day! Or you can even make a pillow, handbag, stuffed toy, or hand sewn item in the Small Sewn Item Competition. And if your sewn item doesn’t fit into any of those categories, they even have a Miscellaneous Sewn item category to fit in those other fun sewn items. Those items will be displayed at District Activity Day.

4-H’ers have the chance to win prizes and ribbons for their efforts in this show! All entries are due by May 28th at 5:00 PM to the Surry County Extension office, so make sure to mark your calendar! Update: All of the incubators have been claimed!

We are retiring 5 incubators from our school enrichment embryology program. We would like to offer them at no cost to any 4-H’ers who would like to try incubating eggs at home. They are still in working condition, though the temperature and humidity controls can be finicky. The incubators must be picked up at our office in Dobson. Please let Amanda know if you would like one. 🐣
