National, state and local governments are not the only entities who use census data.

Residents use census data to support community initiatives such as legislation, quality-of-life and consumer advocacy. Real estate developers and city planners use census data to plan for housing and to improve neighborhoods. Businesses use census data to determine where to build factories, offices and stores– all of which create jobs.

Find out how communities use census data at kansascounts.org. #KansasCounts #2020Census #Censusdata

The Census helps determine the amount of federal funding for the state of Kansas, and in turn, Kansans. Kansas receives over $6 billion each year from the 55 largest federally funded programs.

Kansas’ top 5 federally funded programs are: Medicare Assistance (Medicaid), federal direct student loans, Supplement Nutrition Assistance, Medicare Supplemental Medical Insurance (Part B) and highway planning and construction. Do you know someone who is benefitting from these programs? Take the #2020Census to safeguard their benefits. #KansasCounts

#KansasCounts

Is the census secure? Yes, VERY secure!

Federal law protects your individual census responses, which can only be used to produce statistics. In fact, by law, the

U.S. Census Bureau cannot share your information with immigration agencies, law enforcement agencies or allow it to be used to determine your eligibility for government benefits.

Don’t let concerns about security keep you from participating in a complete count in 2020. Learn more at KansasCounts.org. #KansasCounts #2020Census

Unfortunately, fraud can occur during a census.

As a reminder, the U.S. Census Bureau will never ask for your Social Security number, bank account or credit cards, money or donations. If you get a visit from an enumerator, confirm they have a valid ID badge, with their photograph, a Department of Commerce watermark and an expiration date.

If you suspect any fraud or scam, contact the U.S. Census Bureau at (800) 923-8282. Learn more at Census.gov. #KansasCounts #2020Census

The census is coming! The census is coming!

Look for the census in your mailbox this March. After you receive your census, it only takes a few minutes to complete (and can be completed online, by mail or over the phone).

After you complete the census, share your participation with friends, family, neighbors and colleagues–your assurance might encourage others to participate in the 2020 Census who may not otherwise plan to do so. Visit kansascounts.org for more information. #KansasCounts #2020Census

Lane Closure and Drainage Inlet Repair | 2nd Ave. and Sunnyside

Public Works street crews will be closing the far right lane of 2nd Ave. starting after the Willow St. and onto Sunnyside Ave. to make repairs to the drainage inlet on the Northwest corner of the 2nd Ave. and Sunnyside Ave. intersection.

The work is anticipated to take a week to complete. Please use caution when driving in this area and watch for workers.

Central Reconstruction Project Update | Vine St. intersection is now open

The 800 Block and the Vine St. intersection of Central Ave. is now open to traffic. This completes the work on Central Ave. corridor.

However, with work continuing at the Central Ave. & Comanche St. intersection and weather preventing pavement markings from being placed, Central Ave. will continue to be a one-way street northbound. In March, we hope to complete the work at Comanche St. and install the permanent signage and pavement markings. When this is completed, Central will go to two-way traffic.

Even though the major work is completed on Central Ave., the Contractor will still be performing clean-up and punch list items of work. Please be cautious when you see this work taking place. The School Zone is still in effect from south of Vine Street to the north of Oak St. There are new 20mph flashers that will remind drivers of this. Please watch out for children along Central Ave. as they go to and from the schools located on Central Ave.

Phillips Southern Electric Co. will be installing cameras on the traffic signal at 2nd and Sycamore starting Monday morning, February 10th. The signal will be temporarily out of service until the work is completed; Stop signs will be placed on Sycamore to stop traffic at the intersection. Staff would advise people traveling in this area to use caution while
