For nearly a century, Van Dyken Drilling has been helping customers throughout Belgrade, Bozeman and Southwest Montana access and manage their groundwater resources. Founded in 1930, the company provides water well drilling, pump system installation and service, water treatment and other water-related services. Its work spans residential, agricultural, commercial, industrial, irrigation and municipal applications, making versatility in the field an important part of keeping crews productive.

To add even more capability to that operation, 𝗩𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝘆𝗸𝗲𝗻 recently acquired a new 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗣𝟭𝟬𝗛𝗗𝟯𝗟 𝗽𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗵𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁, mounted on a 2026 RAM 5500 4x4 and outfitted with a 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 11 ft. 𝘁𝗶𝗽-𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 with aluminum fronts and rears.

Its combination of pulling capacity, storage, stability, reach and labor-saving equipment gives 𝗩𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝘆𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 a versatile mobile work platform designed around the demands of its pump service operation.

𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗨𝗽 𝗧𝗼 𝟭𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗟𝗯𝘀. 𝗢𝗳 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿
The "3L" designation in the 𝗣𝟭𝟬𝗛𝗗𝟯𝗟 refers to its three-line configuration. Each line provides 5,000 lbs. of pulling capacity, giving crews 5,000 lbs. with one line, 10,000 lbs. with two and up to 15,000 lbs. with all three.

That flexibility allows 𝗩𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝘆𝗸𝗲𝗻 to match the rig's pulling configuration to the job. With the company working on everything from routine residential systems to wells that can reach hundreds of feet deep, the additional capacity expands the range of pump installations and service work their crews can confidently perform.

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲
The 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 system allows an operator to control key functions of the 𝗽𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗵𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁 without remaining at a fixed control station. This gives the operator greater freedom to position himself for a better view of the well and equipment while eliminating unnecessary trips back to the truck. The result is better visibility, fewer wasted steps and a more efficient workflow during pump installation and removal.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿
A 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 adds another point of stabilization when the rig is set up for work. That's especially valuable when crews move between residential properties, farms and remote well sites where ground conditions can vary. A more stable working platform improves safety while reducing unwanted movement and unnecessary stress on the truck and equipment under load.

𝗟𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁
The 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁 helps raise and lower the mast through the first 18 inches above the frame of the 𝗽𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗵𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁. By reducing stress on the hoist frame during this critical portion of mast movement, it helps protect the rig from repeated wear during setup and breakdown, contributing to greater equipment longevity over years of service.

𝗧𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲
The 𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲 helps contain and protect tools, components and other equipment carried in the service body while also providing crews with a functional rear work area. For 𝗩𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝘆𝗸𝗲𝗻, whose service trucks need to arrive prepared for a wide variety of pump repairs and installations, better organization can mean less time searching for equipment or returning to the shop for supplies, saving on fuel and adding billable hours to each workweek.

𝗣𝗶𝗽𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀
The 𝗽𝗶𝗽𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀 provide dedicated storage for pipe and other long materials without consuming valuable compartment space. The 𝟰𝟲' 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 provides additional vertical working room for handling longer sections of pipe and downhole equipment. Keeping longer sections intact can reduce the number of connections crews need to make and break, saving time while decreasing repetitive handling that can contribute to fatigue and injury.

𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀
The 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 provide elevated illumination around the well and work area when crews are operating before sunrise, after dark or in poor lighting conditions. Better visibility makes it easier to identify tools, connections, footing and potential hazards while allowing crews to safely finish jobs when natural daylight runs short.

𝟮𝟱𝟬 𝗪𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿
The 𝟮𝟱𝟬 𝗪𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 simplifies the tedious job of managing electrical wire as a submersible pump is pulled or installed. It keeps wire organized and under control while reducing manual handling, clutter and tangles around the well. That means a cleaner jobsite, less physical strain on the crew and less time spent managing wire instead of servicing the pump.

The 𝗣𝟭𝟬𝗛𝗗𝟯𝗟 is mounted on a 2026 RAM 5500 4x4 with an 11 ft. 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗽-𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 featuring aluminum fronts and rears. Its storage capacity gives crews room to carry a larger inventory of tools, replacement parts and job-specific equipment, reducing unnecessary trips back to the shop and helping turn more of each workday into productive, billable hours.

The 4x4 chassis also provides a practical foundation for Southwest Montana, where well sites can take crews beyond paved roads and into rural or undeveloped locations. Combined with the rig's storage, stabilization and pulling capability, it gives 𝗩𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝘆𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 a mobile service platform equipped for a broad range of working environments.

A 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 gives the operator greater flexibility to control key hoist functions from a more advantageous position around the work area, improving visibility and helping the crew work more efficiently. Additionally, the remote’s large, easy-to-operate buttons allow crew members to maintain full control while wearing protective work gloves, improving both safety and efficiency on the jobsite.

A 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗿 helps regulate hydraulic oil temperature during demanding or extended operation, supporting consistent performance while reducing heat-related strain on the hydraulic system. 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗿 makes hydraulic power readily available where much of the work takes place, allowing compatible tools and accessories to be operated without unnecessarily complicating the jobsite setup.

For stability, the 𝗣𝟭𝟮 𝗽𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗵𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁 incorporates a 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 and 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗷𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀. Together, they provide a wider, more secure working footprint when setting up the truck on the varied terrain encountered during residential and commercial water well service.

A 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁 option is used to help raise and lower the mast the first 18” off of the frame of the hoist, reducing stress on the hoist frame and extending the lifespan of the rig.

A 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗽𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗵𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁 isn't a one-size-fits-all rig built exclusively for traditional water well contractors. The ability to configure a 𝗣𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗛𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁 around the work its owner earns a living makes it useful across a much broader range of applications.

This new 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗣𝟭𝟮 purchased by 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹 & 𝗣𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗴 is a perfect example. This rig wasn't built for a company that only services water wells. It was built for a North Carolina plumbing company whose work crosses over into pumps, water systems and well service. With a 12,000-lb. maximum double-line pulling capacity, the 𝗣𝟭𝟮 provides substantial pulling capability while remaining well suited for an F-550-class truck.

To make the rig fit its day-to-day operation, 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹 selected a combination of options focused on versatility, efficiency, jobsite stability, operator safety and reducing physical labor.

𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀
𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 gives the operator greater flexibility when controlling the rig. Instead of being tied to one operating position, the operator can work from a location that provides a more strategic vantage point of the equipment and crew, helping improve control, communication and jobsite efficiency. The big buttons on the remote are very useful when operators are wearing work gloves during frosty winter mornings.

A 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹 adds another level of versatility to the 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗣𝟭𝟮 𝗣𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗛𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁 by providing a secondary line capable of freefall operation. It gives the crew another tool for downhole work without requiring separate equipment, helping 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹 handle more tasks with a single truck.

The 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗿 helps manage hydraulic oil temperature during demanding or extended operation. Keeping the hydraulic system within a proper operating temperature range can support consistent performance and reduce heat-related strain on hydraulic components.

A 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 adds another stabilization point when setting up the rig. 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 recommends the front hydraulic outrigger for improved leveling and to help alleviate movement from the truck's front spring suspension. That means a more stable working platform for the crew when the 𝗣𝟭𝟮 is put to work.

𝗟𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁 helps raise and lower the mast through the critical first 18 inches off the frame of the hoist. By reducing the strain placed on the hoist frame as the mast begins to rise or completes its descent, 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁 helps protect the rig from unnecessary stress and wear, ultimately helping extend the service life of the 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗣𝟭𝟮.

𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀 provide additional reach when stabilizing and leveling the 𝗣𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗛𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁 on uneven jobsites. That additional flexibility can be especially valuable when a crew has to work wherever the customer's well or water system happens to be off the paved path.

A sturdy 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲 helps create a more functional rear work area while securing the service body during transportation. It gives the crew a practical transition between traveling to the job and putting the truck to work once it arrives.

An overhead 𝗣𝗶𝗽𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗸 provides dedicated onboard storage for pipe, helping keep long materials organized and accessible while freeing valuable space elsewhere on the truck. Better organization means less time searching for, loading and unloading materials and more time completing billable work.

The 𝟱𝟬’ 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 gives 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹 additional vertical working room for handling longer sections of pipe and equipment. The added height can reduce the amount of handling required during pulling and installation work, helping streamline jobs that would otherwise demand more stops, repositioning and manual labor.

𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁 & 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗼 𝗕𝗮𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 illuminate both the working area around the mast and the truck's storage compartments. Better visibility makes it easier to safely operate the rig and locate tools and parts during early-morning calls, late-day jobs or emergency service after daylight hours. 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 offers LED lighting for both the derrick and cargo bays on all rigs.
