Please see the announcement from Governor Kemp regarding burn bans across the state and please keep firefighters and first responders who are working across the southeast part of the state batting the wildfires in your prayers and pray for rain!

Rumors that someone was shot on E. College Ave. are false. No one was shot, and there is no threat to the area at this time.

We’re seeing more of these rolling through Doerun lately, so let’s go ahead and address it.

“Squatted” trucks are illegal in the State of Georgia.

Under O.C.G.A. § 40-8-6, the front of a vehicle cannot be more than 4 inches higher or lower than the rear.

In other words, if your truck looks like it’s trying to take off, it’s probably not legal.

We were able to stop and cite two of the vehicles shown in this video. We don’t catch them all, but we’re trying.

This law is in place for a reason. These modifications limit visibility and create a safety hazard for everyone else on the road.

If your vehicle is in violation, expect to be stopped.

Drive safe, Doerun.

This is what unsafe equipment looks like on our roads.

We recently conducted a traffic stop involving a truck hauling sod through the city and were assisted by Georgia State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Enforcement. The violations were significant:

• Severely worn and unsafe tires
• Damaged wiring to the trailer
• Load secured with straps tied in knots

This is not just cutting corners. This is dangerous.

If that load comes loose or that equipment fails, it does not just affect the driver. It puts everyone else on the road at risk.

Commercial vehicles have a responsibility to operate safely, and we will continue working with our partners to make sure that happens.

Take a look at the photos. This is the kind of thing we are keeping off your roads.

Drive safe, Doerun.

We don’t know who needs to hear this…
but road construction is not your moment to test your driving skills.
Road work is picking up around Doerun, and some of y’all are driving through it like
“let me just squeeze through here real quick.”
No.
This is not a video game.
Those orange barrels are not obstacles.
And the workers are definitely not part of the course.
Slow down. Pay attention.
Let’s keep everybody safe and off our accident reports.
