🚧 TRAFFIC ADVISORY: NICOR GAS PROJECT ON 138TH STREET BEGINS TUESDAY, SEPT. 8

The Village of Dolton is advising residents and motorists that Nicor Gas will begin a gas main replacement project starting Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The roadway impact is expected to continue for approximately 5 weeks.

📍 Road Closure Information:
• Westbound 138th Street will be closed from Cottage Grove Avenue to Indiana Avenue while crews install a new gas main in the roadway.
• The current project notice identifies westbound traffic only for closure; eastbound 138th Street is not listed as closed.
• After the approximately 5-week construction period, Nicor has indicated that the area may transition to daily closures as needed.

🚗 Simple Detour Summary:
Westbound motorists traveling through the affected section of 138th Street should follow the posted detour signs around the construction zone. The attached map shows traffic being redirected through surrounding streets, including 142nd Street, before reconnecting with the normal route.

🚛 Truck & Industrial Traffic:
Semi-trucks and commercial vehicles traveling to Safety-Kleen and other nearby industrial facilities should also follow the posted detour route and any directions provided by law enforcement or traffic-control personnel.

⚠️ Residents and motorists are encouraged to:
• Allow extra travel time
• Follow all construction and detour signage
• Use caution around workers and equipment
• Avoid the affected westbound section when possible

On Tuesday, September 2, the Village of Dolton came together for a meaningful Community Prayer Service filled with faith, unity, and encouragement. 💚

Hosted in partnership with Pastor Christopher Dodd and New Community Church, the evening brought residents, leaders, and community members together in a spirit of prayer and hope for our village.

🎶🔥 STEPPIN’ AT THE FOUNTAIN — NU AGENDA PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHT!

The final Steppin’ at the Fountain of the season went out on a high note! 💙

Here’s an excerpt from Nu Agenda, the evening’s main attraction, bringing the groove, energy, and live music that had residents enjoying themselves at the Dolton Fountain. 🎤✨

The August 27 finale was filled with music, stepping, line dancing, fellowship, and neighbors simply enjoying a beautiful evening together.

🎶 Nu Agenda delivered a great performance, with music support from Golden Groover Entertainment, helping us close out another memorable season of Steppin’ at the Fountain.

A special thank you to the band, our staff, everyone who helped make the event possible, and—most importantly—the residents who came out throughout the season and made the Fountain a true gathering place for community. 🙌🏾

🚧 TRAFFIC ADVISORY: NIGHTTIME RAMP CLOSURE

The Village of Dolton is informing residents and motorists of an upcoming nighttime ramp closure near Lincoln Avenue and Sibley Boulevard due to ongoing IDOT construction work on the expressway.

📅 Tonight — Thursday, September 3
⏰ Ramp Closed: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM Friday morning

Following concerns regarding signage during a previous closure, the IDOT construction supervisor has advised that additional warning signs will be installed to give motorists more advance notice.

🚦 Additional signage will include:
• A “Ramp Closure” sign on Sibley Boulevard at Lincoln Avenue
• Advance notice signage farther along Sibley near Advance Auto Parts
• Improved notification to motorists before they reach the closure

✅ The ramp is expected to remain OPEN throughout the upcoming holiday weekend.

IDOT has also indicated that one additional nighttime closure may be necessary next week, if construction requires it. If so, the anticipated closure hours would again be 10:00 PM–6:00 AM. The Village will share updated information as it becomes available.

Please plan accordingly, allow additional travel time, and use caution around construction areas. 🚗

🎗️ 3RD ANNUAL ALL CANCER AWARENESS WALK & HEALTH FAIR — COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHTS

The 3rd Annual All Cancer Awareness Walk & Health Fair brought residents, families, friends, community leaders, and supporters together for a meaningful day of hope, remembrance, strength, and awareness at the Lester L. Long Fieldhouse. 💜

The Village of Dolton was proudly represented by Mayor Jason House, several members of the Board of Trustees, and Village officials, who joined the community in supporting survivors, honoring loved ones, and standing with those continuing their fight against cancer.

The event also brought together:

• 🎙️ Local radio personalities and community voices
• 🤝 Dolton Park District President Cleo Jones and Park District officials
• 🏥 Community health partners and organizations
• 🚶🏾‍♀️ Residents, families, and friends who walked together for the cause
• 💜 Survivors, supporters, and those honoring the memory of loved ones

A special thank you to the Dolton Park District and UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial for helping bring this important community event together.
