🔥 Update: South Georgia Burn Restrictions Eased

Governor Kemp has issued an executive order easing outdoor burning restrictions in parts of South Georgia.

While this is a step in the right direction, burning is still restricted in 17 South Georgia counties, as shown on the map below. These areas continue to face extreme drought and elevated wildfire risk.

⚠️ What to know:
➡️ Some counties are now allowed to resume limited outdoor burning
➡️ Others remain under restrictions due to ongoing fire danger
➡️ Conditions can change quickly—always check before you burn

Even where restrictions have been eased, extreme caution is still critical. Dry conditions remain across much of the state, and it only takes one spark to start a wildfire.

We appreciate everyone doing their part to help reduce wildfire risk across Georgia.

The best time to prepare for hurricanes is BEFORE hurricane season begins. The eastern Pacific hurricane season runs from May 15 to November 30.

Prepare NOW so you avoid having to rush through potentially life-saving preparations. Take time to stock up on disaster supplies and look into flood insurance, which requires a 30-day waiting period.

Mandatory Burn Ban- NO BURNING AT ALL
🔥 URGENT: Outdoor Burn Ban Issued for South Georgia

Due to worsening drought conditions and rising wildfire activity, Georgia’s State Forester has issued a mandatory ban on outdoor burning for 91 counties in the lower half of the state.

This is the first mandatory burn ban in Georgia Forestry Commission history.

The ban covers counties from Harris County to Columbia County and south to the Florida line.
It is effective immediately and will remain in place for at least 30 days.

This means:
❌ No prescribed burns
❌ No burning yard debris
❌ No agricultural burning

🔥 98% of Georgia is in moderate to exceptional drought
🔥 Wildfires are already above the 5-year average

As State Forester Johnny Sabo said:
“Just one spark or ember can ignite a life-threatening wildfire.”

⚠️ What you need to do:
• Do NOT burn outdoors
• Follow all local guidance and restrictions
• Be extremely cautious with anything that could create a spark

Our firefighters are responding to a near-record number of wildfires. We need everyone’s help to prevent the next one.
