Here are some of the pictures from our Risking It All For Freedom exhibit at the Plano African American Museum and the opening day speaking event at the Dallas Historical Society. Thank you to the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Mellon Foundation for their generous support in helping descendants reclaim, preserve, and educate the world about their history. It was a pleasure working with the wonderful Dollie, Toni, and Areail Thomas sisters and the other members of their board, and David Lee and all the other wonderful people at the Dallas Historical Society!

We could not be more honored to call Dr. Hammack the Historical Advisor of our Webber Family Preservation Project nonprofit organization! She is truly a phenomenal scholar, advocate, and educator!

Congratulations to María Hammack, Assistant Professor of African American History, on being awarded the 2024-2025 Rodica C. Botoman Award!

Established July 2006 by the Board of Trustees at The Ohio State University with gifts from Ben M. Jones, III, a former Columbus businessman, and Dr. V. Alin Botoman (B.S. 1975), son of George and Rodica Botoman. The Rodica C. Botoman Award for Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching and Mentoring supports a member of the Humanities faculty who best exemplifies excellence as a teacher of undergraduates. While the emphasis is on outstanding performance in the classroom, the selection committee also considered the nominee's performance as mentor or advisor and use of innovative teaching strategies for the advancement of learning. Dr. Hammack was nominated by several students, who in their nominations attested to the lasting impression she made upon them.

Our exhibit at the Plano African American Museum will be on display from March 6-May 7!
