Students in Ms. Mercado’s class investigated changes in matter by discovering which materials would melt when placed in the sunlight! ☀️🔎🧊🍫🖍️ They placed objects such as ice, chocolate, and crayons in a sunny location and carefully observed what happened over time.

Students recorded their observations 📝 and discovered that some materials changed from a solid to a liquid when heated by the Sun. This hands-on experiment showed our young scientists that adding heat can cause a physical change in matter! 🧪✨

Way to go Ms. Vega!!

Shoutout to Ms. Monica Vega, 3rd-grade Reading Language Arts teacher at Salazar Elementary, for getting students talking, thinking, and digging deeper into their reading! During a lesson on elementos literarios (literary elements), Ms. Vega activated visuals and used processing tools to reinforce the targeted comprehension skill. Students then took their learning around the room through a collaborative gallery walk, where they discussed open-ended questions, analyzed the text, and cited evidence to support their thinking. As students worked together, Ms. Vega used aggressive monitoring to check progress, clarify understanding, and provide support when needed. Strong lesson alignment kept the activity focused on the targeted skill, while opportunities to upgrade vocabulary encouraged students to use academic language as they discussed and explained their ideas. Critical thinking, meaningful conversations, and students supporting their ideas with evidence is a winning combination! DISD Salazar Elementary 🎯 ,
