James Gibbons was a FF on L-6 before transferring to E-37, his son Sean worked at E-18 & L-6 throughout all three ranks before being promoted to District Fire Chief. This holds a special place in our hearts.

Engine 18, He was acting as Chief’s Aide to DC Charles Long, in District 10, (Meeting House Hill) while responding to Box 3274 (Dorchester Avenue & Adams Street) at 2338 hours on May 19, they were in an accident with another automobile, he died from the injuries he received. He had 6 years service.

Nineteen years ago today, at 0447 hours on Saturday, May 3, 2003, the first of 7 alarms was transmitted from Box 3418 for a fire at 14-16-18 Melbourne Street, District 8.

For the only time in BFD history, all four medals were awarded to members who distinguished themselves in the performance of their duties at the same fire.
