🚨 “A HUSTLE WORTH HAVING.” 🚨

The volunteer fire service isn’t just a hobby — it’s a commitment to your community, your crew, and being ready when people need help most.

At the Dormont Fire Department, volunteers help answer nearly 800 calls every year alongside our career staff. Not everyone is cut out for it — but for the right person, it’s a hustle worth having.

Paul Miller’s Law became effective on June 05, 2025, and made it illegal in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to use a hand-held cellphone while driving. For the first year of the law, only warnings were authorized.

Beginning on June 06, 2026, Officers will begin issuing tickets for operators using a cell phone while driving.

As part of the education of vehicle operators, Police Departments along the SR 19 corridor in the South Hills will be conducting an education and enforcement initiative on June 1, stopping any drivers observed using their cell phones, even at a red light, to warn about the dangers of distracted driving.

Dormont PD will join Bethel Park,
Mount Lebanon, North Strabane, South Strabane, Peters Township and Upper St. Clair police departments in this work.
These Police Departments will be putting extra patrols on and around SR 19 in an effort to reduce distracted driving.

Officers will only be writing warnings for observed illegal usage of a cell phone; however appropriate enforcement action may be taken for other violations.

Our thoughts are with the Morrill Fire Department, family, and friends of Firefighter Andrew Cross, who died in the line of duty on Friday, May 15, 2026, while responding to a fire at a lumber mill in Searsmont, Maine.

At least 10 others are in serious or critical conditions due to injuries after a massive explosion occurred at the scene.

Last night crews focused drilled on deploying and advancing charge hose lines throughout a commercial building.

At the end of training Chief gave a short lesson in feeding loops up of hose line up staircases. This technique enables limited-staffed crews to more efficiently feed hose to upper levels of the building versus traditional methods.

Are you a strong, hard working Dormonter? We always have plenty of space for another hose dragger. Come by the station any evening or go to www.dormontfiredept.com and learn more.
