Last night we responded to a commercial fire at Mike & Tony's Gyros on West Liberty Ave immediately after a residential fire in Castle Shannon.

Dormont Fire Station 130 responded with 130 Engine and Chief in the Command Vehicle. 130 Truck was still commited, cleaning up at the Castle Shannon Volunteer Fire Department fire. The truck crew was immediately released by command and proceeded from one fire to the next.

Firefighting efforts began within a few minutes of dispatch, mitigating damage to the restaurant.

This was possible due to 24/7 staffing and recall of career personnel from Dormont Firefighters IAFF Local 3584 as well as the Dormont Volunteer Firefighter's Association. Our combination department model served us effectively last night to ensure adequate coverage of our community while firefighters were out helping our neighbors.

Thank you to the multiple neighboring departments who assisted us... no one department can fight a fire alone anymore.

Lastly our thoughts are with the impacted business & staff members as well as the Castle Shannon homeowners.

Last evening, we hosted our mutual aid partners from the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department and Castle Shannon Volunteer Fire Department for quarterly training.

We would like to thank ABC Fire Extinguisher Co. for providing an informative class on commercial fire alarm systems, including control panels, detection devices, and system operations.

Fire alarm systems play a critical role in the early detection of fire and provide responding firefighters with valuable information during emergencies. Training opportunities such as this help ensure our personnel remain familiar with the technology protecting our community.

Take a moment to read and contact your state representatives.

Common sense legislation is needed to ensure that these EMS agencies, like our partner Medical Rescue Team South Authority, receive payment for the care they provide.

“This is unprecedented. We haven’t had any that reached that level,” said Steve Kline of Ross/West View EMS and Rescue.
