I do not agree that raising rates and adding surcharges to the utility bills is the answer to the deep issues that caused this problem or the cure to the situation. The city has to change how business is done.
My plan was not on the agenda so I presented it during my council report.
It’s not perfect. It’s not the only answer. It is a start to curing the problem.
I will request it to be on the June agenda and posted on the website the Friday before the June meeting.
Some of the options in my plan include services that the council and management were previously aware of and were not in favor of exploring at the time.
I am not going to sit silent while the community is demanding answers and solutions.
MCAG did discover compliance issues last June with Measure V. For the last 11 months the city finances have been looked at by an outside agency, county officials and departments have offered support, and the budget had a $600,000 cut in December.
Several individuals, county departments, and agencies contacted me offering services. I spent countless hours speaking with those that want to help Dos Palos.
I have taken into consideration all the comments and suggestions at the last 2 council meetings and from online comments.
The plan I put together needs input, cooperation from council and management, and ultimately approve from the council.
