🚨 ARSON INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ARREST 🚨

On April 7, 2026, the Dos Palos Police Department and CAL FIRE responded to a structure fire in the 1400 block of Center Avenue. The fire was successfully contained before spreading to nearby downtown businesses; however, multiple trees, a PG&E power pole, and Comcast/Frontier fiber optic lines were damaged, resulting in temporary power outages affecting local businesses and residents. Extensive damages from the fires are estimated to exceed $100,000.

The following day, April 8, 2026, officers and firefighters responded to another suspicious fire near Blossom Street and Carol Avenue, where shopping carts, miscellaneous debris, and a power pole were intentionally set on fire.

Through continued investigation and follow-up with local businesses, Jose Uber Ramirez-Gonzaga was identified as a suspect in both arson investigations.

On May 12, 2026, officers assisted CAL FIRE on an active fire near Elgin Avenue and Eucalyptus Road. Ramirez-Gonzaga was contacted and detained in the area. Detective Coronado and Sergeant Chavez conducted an interview, during which Ramirez-Gonzaga provided a statement and confession related to the fires.

Ramirez-Gonzaga was booked into the Merced County Main Jail on multiple arson-related charges.

The Dos Palos Police Department would like to thank CAL FIRE for their partnership and assistance throughout these investigations.

Excellent work by all personnel involved in protecting our community. 👏🔥
