On March 30, 1970, a legend was born. A fiery red c**t named Secretariat took his first breath in a foaling shed at Christopher Chenery’s Meadow Stable in Caroline County, Virginia. In 1973, he left the world breathless with his spectacular and incomparable Triple Crown. On March 28, 2020, Secreta...

As we get ready to start a new year and a new decade, we wish to thank everyone for their support of the Secretariat Heritage Center. We're happy to report that we have raised enough money to start work on repairing Secretariat's yearling barn and "annex" barn at The Meadow. The six wooden cupolas with copper domes on the barns have sustained weather damage over the decades and are the first target. All work will be done in accordance with the guidelines set for historic properties, as the barns are on the state and national historic registers.
We will keep you posted so you can "keep up with the cupolas!" Additional work on all the barns is being planned.
Here's a photo of the stallion, yearling and annex barns from a much earlier time. Mr. Chenery built the barns after he founded Meadow Stable in 1936.

Today marks 46 years since Secretariat ridden by Ron Turcotte paraded before nearly 33,000 fans at Aqueduct Racetrack in his last public appearance before retiring to stud. Here are some pics from that memorable day November 6, 1973. The last pic shows lead pony Billy Silver ridden by Charlie Davis escorting Big Red before the crowds. Now we're getting ready to go to Lexington, Kentucky for the Secretariat Festival and the unveiling of a magnificent new statue of Secretariat and Ron Turcotte created by sculptor Jocelyn Russell. The enormous creation is 1.5 times the size of Big Red!
And thanks to the generosity of "super-fan" Connie Grant Wood, we'll be bringing home a smaller version of the statue for display in Meadow Hall mansion.
