September really came in with a BANG this year! We welcomed NINE sweet babes earth side.
This month was filled with supporting mamas, hard decisions, a few transfers for birth & lots and lots of small cat naps & coffee.
A first time mama who welcomed her labor with so much strength and patience. She worked through early labor so well with her husband and was really in denial that baby was coming until the very end! She was so strong & peaceful as she brought her sweet baby boy forward, a beautiful water birth supported by an incredible birth team.
A fourth time mama that went in for monitoring at 41.2 to have an ultrasound to check on her sweet babe. When she arrived to the facility her blood pressures were very high. The decision was made for admission and induction of labor. Sweet (chunky) baby boy was born several hours later. Gods hand was all over this family & birth.
A first time mama who began developing high blood pressure around 41 weeks. After an evaluation it was determined she did have preeclampsia and induction of labor was needed. This sweet mama made it to 10cm and pushed for several hours when it was suspected her baby was in a difficult position for vaginal birth. After discussion, the decision was made to go to cesarean section. While this was never the plan, this mama switched gears beautifully & had much peace about how she needed to get her sweet baby girl here safely.
A second time mama who’s baby was waiting on no one to come in to this world! With contractions 15 minutes a part, water broke and sweet baby came very quickly and swiftly before this midwife (or the dad😳), could make it there. I arrived to find this family transitioning well & stayed to spend some time with them postpartum-all in much shock at how quickly little girl decided to come.
A first time mama who made the decision to switch her plans from hospital birth to home birth around 30 weeks pregnant. She had much peace about having a home birth. She did so so well throughout labor and birth, supported by her husband. I was laboring with another mama while this birth was taking place. Huge thanks to for stepping in and helping support this family as they brought their sweet baby boy earth side at home.
A first time mom who labored beautifully with her husband and support team. Making it all the way to 9cm when her body decided to take a break from contractions. Over the next 16 hours we encouraged position changes, rest, nutrition to try to get contractions back strong and regular. Ultimately the decision was made to go to the hospital for a small amount of pitocin to get contractions back going. Very soon after starting pitocin baby decided she was ready to come and this strong mama had her epidural free birth in the hospital surrounded by a supportive staff.
A first time mama who started labor around 42 weeks. Early labor started and it was a long one. Encouragement for alternations between rest and movement was given- supported by her husband and doula. After laboring for a while longer the decision was made to go in to the hospital due to baby’s heart rate being high and for an epidural so that this sweet mama could rest. She then labored there for many more hours. The hospital staff was phenomenal and she was respected and cared for so well! She strongly pushed out her baby girl with so much power & grace.
A fifth time mama who welcomed her sweet little surprise baby girl in to the world surrounded by so much love. This baby was born right in to her dad’s arms. Siblings in the next room so excited to meet their new baby sister. A perfect and very beautiful birth.
A sweet second time mama who got her redemptive birth story. This mama was a client of ours during her first pregnancy. After days and days of labor she transferred in for rest and was able to have a vaginal birth in the hospital. For this second pregnancy she decided she would again try for her home birth-and oh did she get the most beautiful and redemptive birth! Surrounded by her husband, mom & birth team-this mama powered her way through labor with so much strength. She welcomed her sweet 10lb 2oz baby in her home & what an honor it was to be there!
Whewww-what a MONTH! An already very busy September turned even busier as we had a few August moms go into September and an October mama have her baby early. I’m so thankful for the Lords sustenance & grace. Thankful for my family who knows the life of a midwife can ebb and flow-always there to support me, and to all of these wonderful families who invited me in to their space.
October should be a restful month for this midwife. Four clients due-some who will likely go in to November. A trip with friends toward the end of the month to refuel & regroup. Welcoming in the last quarter of the year with anticipation & excitement.
