WATER SAFETY MONTH: What to Wear at the River! πŸ‘™

Before you wade in this summer, your swimsuit color matters more than you think:

βœ… Bright Neon Colors (orange, yellow, lime green, hot pink) β€” Highly visible in and out of the water. Easiest for lifeguards and others to spot quickly in an emergency.

βœ… Red or Royal Blue β€” Still solid visibility choices, especially against murky river water. A good backup to neon.

❌ Dark Colors (black, navy, dark green, brown) β€” Blend into river water and riverbanks almost immediately. Hardest to spot if someone goes under.

❌ Camouflage Patterns β€” Designed to disappear into natural surroundings. Never a good choice near open water.

Rivers move differently than pools β€” currents, depth changes, and murky water make visibility critical. Wearing the right color could make all the difference in an emergency.

When in doubt, go bright. Be seen, stay safe.

WATER SAFETY MONTH: Always Swim With a Buddy 🀝🌊

We want you to have the BEST time and come home safe from your water adventures. One of the simplest ways to do that? Never swim alone. πŸ’™

Why the buddy system matters:
πŸ”Ή If something goes wrong, your buddy can get help fast
πŸ”Ή Rip currents, cramps, and fatigue can happen to anyone β€” even strong swimmers
πŸ”Ή A buddy can spot trouble before you even realize you're in it

Buddy system rules to swim by:
βœ… Always pick a buddy BEFORE you get in the water
βœ… Keep eyes on each other β€” don't wander off separately
βœ… If one of you gets into trouble, STAY CALM and signal for help
βœ… Swim near a lifeguard station whenever possible
βœ… Check in with each other regularly, especially in open water

What NOT to do:
❌ Do NOT assume someone else is watching out for you
❌ Do NOT swim alone, even if the water looks calm and safe
❌ Do NOT let your buddy swim out of your sight

No matter how strong of a swimmer you are, the buddy system saves lives. It costs nothing and could make all the difference.

Stay smart, stay together, and enjoy every wave. See y'all at the beach! πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈ

WATER SAFETY MONTH: Rip Currents Are No Joke 🚨🌊

Heading to the beach this summer? We want you to have the BEST time and come home safe. That means knowing about one of the ocean's most dangerous hidden hazards: rip currents. πŸ’™

What IS a rip current?
πŸ”Ή A fast-moving channel of water pulling away from shore
πŸ”Ή Can reach speeds of 8 feet per second β€” faster than an Olympic swimmer
πŸ”Ή They're often hard to see and easy to get caught in

If you get caught in a rip current:
βœ… STAY CALM, don't panic and don't fight it
βœ… Float or tread water to conserve your energy
βœ… Swim PARALLEL to the shore until you're out of the current
βœ… Then swim back to shore at an angle
βœ… Wave and call for help if you need it

What NOT to do:
❌ Do NOT swim directly against the current toward shore, you'll exhaust yourself
❌ Do NOT ignore warning flags on the beach
❌ Do NOT assume calm water means safe water

Before you go, always check the beach flag conditions and swim near a lifeguard station whenever possible. Rip currents can form even on calm-looking days.

Stay smart, stay safe, and enjoy every wave. See y'all at the beach! πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈ
