Wiregrass Area Food Bank

Wiregrass Area Food Bank Feeding Southeast Alabama by distributing donated food, developing partnerships, and cultivating community participation

The Wiregrass Area Food Bank is a non-profit hunger relief charity that solicits and collects donated food. The Food Bank distributes this food to organizations feeding the needy in a six-county service area that includes Houston, Henry, Dale, Geneva, Coffee, and Barbour counties in Alabama. The Food Bank is an independent non-profit with paid staff, volunteers, and a board of directors. Operating

from a warehouse with frozen and refrigerated storage, and networked with other food banks from across the country, the Food Bank can access food and other assorted grocery products and operate at minimal cost. As a result, member non-profit agencies that utilize the Food Bank are able to conduct their food programs in a cost-effective manner. No donated food is ever sold by the Food Bank or by any member agency. Food recipients incur no cost for food assistance. A shared maintenance fee assessed to affiliate agencies helps to support the Wiregrass Area United Way Food Bank. Additional financial support is generously donated from churches, civic clubs, businesses, and concerned citizens. The Wiregrass Area Food Bank is an equal opportunity provider.

If your food pantry or soup kitchen in Houston, Henry, Dale, Coffee, Geneva, or Barbour counties received donations from the Stamp Out Hunger food drive this past weekend, would you mind sharing your totals with the Wiregrass Area Food Bank? This is strictly for record-keeping purposes. The food collected is intended to stay in the community where it was collected. We just like to brag on the National Association of Letter Carriers. Thank you!

Thank you WTVY News 4 for stopping by to talk about the annual National Association of Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive taking place on Saturday.

Just leave a bag of canned goods at your mailbox on Saturday and your letter carrier will do the rest!

The 34th annual food drive's goal is to collect food to supply partner pantries throughout the region.

THANK YOU!!!

Our community showed up in a big way to help us spread the love through our 4th Annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive! 🥜

Thanks to your generosity, we collected more than 2,100 jars of peanut butter to help stock the shelves of the Wiregrass Area Food Bank and support families facing hunger right here at home.

We’re especially grateful for our community partners who helped make this possible:

Press Release from New South Cruisers: On Thursday morning, March 12th, the Wiregrass Area Food Bank received a generous cash donation of $3,100 from the New South Cruisers Inc., a 501(c)(3) vintage automobile club based in Dothan, AL.

These funds represent the profits from the 2nd Annual Jakes Antiques, Bottle, & Advertising Show and Vintage Car Show held recently at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds.

Mrs. Julie Gonzalez, CEO of the Food Bank, expressed her sincere gratitude for the donation. She noted that this contribution will provide 34,444 lbs. of food, which equates to approximately 26,910 meals. This support is increasingly critical as budgets are stretched thin due to recent global turmoil and rising gas and energy prices.

The New South Cruisers are already looking forward to next year’s show. We hope for great weather and an even larger turnout to facilitate an even higher donation in the future.
