Tropical Depression Two has now formed across the northeastern Gulf. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for coastal and near shore waters, and a Tropical Warning is in effect for offshore waters through Wednesday morning. Storm Surge of 1-3 feet is anticipated for Apalachee Bay and the Florida Big Bend areas.

An area of low pressure over the northeastern Gulf continues to gradually become better organized. There is now an 80% chance of tropical development within the next 48 hours. Heavy rain across the eastern and northern Gulf Coast states, possibly bringing flash flooding, will be the thing to watch into early next week, regardless of tropical development. Will have more information as this system evolves. Stay alert to updated weather information.

7/19/26 2AM EDT Update:

Chances of tropical development have increased to 60% over the northeastern Gulf within the next 48 hours (and next 7 days). An area of low pressure in the northeastern Gulf is becoming better defined early this morning. It could become a tropical depression over the next couple of days as it moves slowly north to northwestward. Ultimate track forecast remains uncertain at this time.

Regardless of tropical development, locally heavy rain that could lead to isolated flash flooding is the primary concern along with gusty winds along the coast the next couple of days.

NWS-7/17/26 2 AM UPDATE:

The NHC continues to highlight the northeastern Gulf for the potential of tropical development. At this time, that chance is low at 20%. It is too early to determine impacts, so be sure to check back for later updates.
