I really enjoyed attending the Alabama Association of School Boards District 3 Meeting last week! One of the things I appreciate most about these opportunities is connecting with other school board members, especially those right here in our area, and hearing different perspectives on the issues we’re all navigating in public education.

It was also great to hear from AASB’s new Executive Director, Dr. Chad Holden, about some of the challenges and opportunities ahead for education in Alabama, as well as from our District 3 Director, Tara McCord Singley.

Always grateful for opportunities to learn, connect, and bring those perspectives back home as we continue working on behalf of our students! ❤️📚

My sincere condolences to Dolly Parton’s family and loved ones. ❤️

I’m so grateful for her incredible commitment to ensuring children across Alabama and our nation have access to books and the opportunity to develop a lifelong love of reading. What a beautiful and lasting legacy. 📚❤️

“Alabama joins the nation in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton, whose remarkable legacy extends far beyond music and entertainment. Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, she placed the joy of reading directly into the hands and homes of children across our state, and nation, regardless of their families’ income or circumstances for more than 30 years,” Mackey said.

Today, more than 100,000 Alabama children receive a free, age-appropriate book each month through the program, which reaches families in all 67 counties. Those books represent more than stories on a page. They strengthen families, build early literacy skills, and help prepare children for success in school and throughout life. Dolly Parton understood that a child who learns to love books gains the freedom to imagine a larger future. Alabama’s educators and families will remain forever grateful for her generosity, compassion and unwavering belief in the potential of every child.”

I encourage everyone to come out to tomorrow’s Dothan City Schools Board meeting. There is a motion to censure my fellow board member, Mrs. Brenda Guilford.

If you’ve heard anything about my short tenure on this Board, you know I am a strong advocate for our children and our educators. But I am equally committed to standing against injustice toward anyone, especially when I believe someone is not being treated fairly or afforded a fair process.

I definitely have something to say tomorrow. And as I’ve said before on this Board, I will not be silenced.

📍 1665 Honeysuckle Road
⏰ Tuesday, August 18th at 5:30 PM

I hope to see you there.

I’m truly grateful for this opportunity to show our appreciation to our educators. Special thanks to Chefkym's! 🙏🏽❤️
