On Sunday, June 7th, at approximately 1 PM, a female party was injured while horseback riding along the Reservoir Trail in the Douglas State Forest. She had sustained a leg injury and therefore was non-ambulatory.

As a result, the Douglas Police and Town of Douglas Fire Department responders were faced with the challenge of extracting her through about a mile of very difficult terrain to the nearest road. Thanks to the prompt assistance of two local residents, Brian Devlin, and his father in law, Kenneth Gouin, she was quickly transported by pontoon boat to a nearby staging area where an ambulance was waiting.

The Douglas Police Department would like to shout out a special THANK YOU to Brian and Kenneth for all of their help. They jumped into action without hesitation, dropping what they were doing, simply to help another in need. This substantially reduced the time and resources necessary for such a challenging mission and ultimately lead to the patient getting to a hospital sooner than anticipated.

Great work by everyone involved and especially inspiring to witness Brian and Kenneth’s acts of kindness in that moment. Thanks again!

Tonight, Deputy Chief Manning and Douglas Fire Logistics Member Ben Tusino attended the Tri-Epic Regional Emergency Planning Committee’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) graduation ceremony.

We are pleased to welcome two new volunteers to the Douglas CERT Team, Jeff and Leah Talbot. Over the past 12 weeks, they completed the initial CERT training program hosted by the Town of Charlton. We thank them for their dedication and commitment to this extensive training and look forward to their contributions in supporting emergency management, preparedness, and response efforts in Douglas and throughout the region.

Congratulations to Jeff and Leah, as well as all of the graduates from the Towns of Charlton, Oxford, and Webster!

At 12:40am this morning, Douglas Fire units were dispatched to a rollover motor vehicle crash on Depot Street in the area of #50. While fire units were enroute, Douglas Police Officers on scene advised that the sole occupant of the vehicle had sustained severe injuries.

Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed that the patient had been partially ejected from the vehicle and was in critical condition. A medical helicopter was requested to respond, and the patient was rapidly packaged and transported to the Town’s designated landing zone at the intersection of Main Street and Riedell Road. Care was then transferred to the waiting Lifeflight crew.

The patient was subsequently transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for advanced care. No further information on the patient’s condition is available at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the Douglas Police Department.

Tonight, Douglas Firefighters participated in the department’s annual PT test. This test simulates fire ground tasks such as pulling hose lines, throwing ladders, and forcible entry - all in succession. It’s been fun to see our staff push themselves to better their time from the previous year!

Coming this Saturday - We would like to welcome back our annual Memorial Day Parade!
