On Sunday, June 7th, at approximately 1 PM, a female party was injured while horseback riding along the Reservoir Trail in the Douglas State Forest. She had sustained a leg injury and therefore was non-ambulatory.
As a result, the Douglas Police and Town of Douglas Fire Department responders were faced with the challenge of extracting her through about a mile of very difficult terrain to the nearest road. Thanks to the prompt assistance of two local residents, Brian Devlin, and his father in law, Kenneth Gouin, she was quickly transported by pontoon boat to a nearby staging area where an ambulance was waiting.
The Douglas Police Department would like to shout out a special THANK YOU to Brian and Kenneth for all of their help. They jumped into action without hesitation, dropping what they were doing, simply to help another in need. This substantially reduced the time and resources necessary for such a challenging mission and ultimately lead to the patient getting to a hospital sooner than anticipated.
Great work by everyone involved and especially inspiring to witness Brian and Kenneth’s acts of kindness in that moment. Thanks again!
