An alarming trend coming out of Lincoln that we all need to be aware of today.
Consider getting narcan if you don’t have any readily available. It could save a life.

COMMUNITY ALERT | Since late March, six people in Lincoln are believed to have died from drug overdoses, including two today (April 8th). Our thoughts go out to the loved ones impacted by these tragedies.

At this time, our Narcotics and Criminal Investigations Units are working to determine what substances were responsible for the deaths and if there is any connection between them. The investigations are ongoing.

Please be aware of this upward trend in deaths and do NOT take anything not prescribed to you by a medical professional. Overdoses can happen to anyone.

Remember, Narcan (naloxone) can help reverse an opioid overdose. It is FREE in Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department vending machines around the city, at many local pharmacies and online at stopodne.com.

This has been a busy week — we’ve responded to 8 emergency calls since Monday.

If you see any of our first responders around town, please take a moment to thank them. We’re all volunteers, and no matter how many times the pagers go off, we’ll always be there because we genuinely love this community and the people in it. ❤️

We’d also like to share a few quick tips that can help us serve you better if you or someone you know ever needs us:

1. Prepare an emergency information list for each member of your household and keep it somewhere easy to find (a refrigerator magnet works perfectly).
We provide these magnets free of charge — just ask any of our rescue members and we’ll get one to you.

Include on each list:
* Emergency Contacts
* Medical History
* Current Medication List
* Allergies

2. Secure your pets before we arrive. This keeps them safe and prevents them from getting in the way so our EMTs can focus completely on the patient.

3. If possible, clear a path to the patient. This allows us to get the stretcher as close as possible and provide faster care.

Finally, if you have medical training or have ever thought about becoming an EMT we’d love to have you join us, we’ll even pay for your license and training! Come check out one of our monthly meetings or reach out to any of our current EMTs to learn more.

Thank you for your continued support! 🙏

Happy Birthday, Chief Joe Moller!

Today we celebrate an extraordinary man who has dedicated his life to the Douglas Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. With countless years of unwavering service—starting when calls were rare and the department was just beginning to grow—you’ve led with strength, wisdom, and heart as our Fire Chief for nearly as long.
Your leadership has guided us through countless emergencies, record-breaking call volumes, and the everyday challenges of keeping our rural community safe. You’ve mentored generations of volunteers, stepped up when we needed more hands on deck, and shown what true commitment to service looks like.

Joe, your legacy is etched in every siren, every rescue, and every life touched by the brave men and women of DVFR. Thank you for your endless sacrifices, your steady presence, and for being the rock this department—and this community—has relied on for decades.
Wishing you a fantastic birthday filled with family, friends, maybe a day off from pagers, and all the appreciation you so richly deserve. Here’s to many more years of health, happiness, and the continued respect of everyone who knows you!

Happy Birthday, Chief! 🎂🚒🙏
