Public Notice:

Water Street Traffic Notice – Saturday, July 11

The City of Douglas would like to provide advance notice that additional repair work will be taking place on Water Street between South Street and Randolph Street on Saturday, July 11, from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

During this time, the northbound lane only will be affected. Please note that this is not a full road closure; traffic will continue to have access through the area, although motorists may experience minor delays and should use caution when traveling through the work zone.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as these necessary repairs are completed.

Job Opening-City of the Village of Douglas

Deputy Clerk

FLSA: Non-Exempt
Status: At will hourly employee. Full-time 40 hours per week. Eligible for all City fringe benefits.

Supervised By: City Clerk (may receive additional direction and work assignments from the City Manager and Treasurer)

Supervises: No direct supervision

Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the City Clerk and/or Treasurer. The Deputy Clerk /Accounts Coordinator performs a variety of administrative, clerical, financial, and customer service duties in support of City operations. Responsibilities include assisting with Clerk functions, elections, public records, board & committee meetings, and other municipal administrative operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with daily Clerk’s Office operations and administrative support functions
• Provide front desk and customer service assistance to residents, businesses, and visitors
• Assist with election administration and voter registration activities
• Prepare, process, and maintain records, files, permits, licenses, and official documents, Prepare reports, correspondence, agendas, minutes, and other documents as assigned
• Maintain confidentiality and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
• Support departmental projects, special events, and operational needs as required
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Skills / Abilities:
• Previous municipal government experience encouraged
• Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
• Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality

Preferred Skills:
• Knowledge of municipal operations and election procedures
• Experience with BS&A or similar municipal software programs
• Record management and public meeting support experience

Compensation & Benefits
The City of Douglas offers a starting hourly range of $22–$25 depending on qualifications and experience. Candidates are encouraged to submit their desired salary range for consideration. The City also offers a generous benefits package that supports employee health, retirement, and overall wellbeing.

For your information!

Beginning Monday, July 13th, Old Allegan Road Will be closed at the I-196 overpass while the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) completes necessary bridge repairs. The closure is expected to remain in place through the fall. We will continue to share updates as they become available from MDOT.
