Words cannot express our gratitude for all those who came to lend assistance July 2nd and 3rd. Glendo Ambulance kept an eye on our health, Wheatland Fire, Camp Guernsey Fire, Guernsey Fire and Douglas Fire all sent engines and people who worked their tails off. I am humbled by the amount of support offered by our community.

The Fourth of July is just around the corner…

We would like to remind everyone that the use of consumer fireworks within City of Douglas limits is not allowed, which includes parks, schools, streets, alleys, public right-of-ways, and private property. Violator could be issued a citation with a possible fine. Also if a fire is determined to be started from the fireworks the violator could be responsible for the cost of extinguishment.

This includes possession of black cats, roman candles, and screaming mimis. You can’t possess or sell any fuzz buttles, snicker bombs, or zippity do das. And in no way can you light up some spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, hoosker doos, hoosker don'ts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or single whistlin' kitty chasers. It’s just not allowed.

Instead, consider enjoying the annual fireworks show hosted by the Douglas Volunteer Fire Department on July 4, at the back parking lot of the high school. The celebration is designed to be visible from various locations across the city.

Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday! 🇺🇸

At about 2030 on the 20th of May the Douglas Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for a trailer house on fire. They responded with 4 trucks about 15 firefighters. They spent over 4 hours on scene. The fire displaced the occupants of the trailer as it's a total loss. Photos by Cody Kain.
