What an incredible afternoon at our Dinner Before the Bell event!

We loved seeing so many kids and families come together before the new school year. From shooting hoops on the basketball court to enjoying great food and spending time with friends, it was a fantastic way to wrap up summer and get excited for the first day of school.

Traffic Tip Tuesday

Yellow Means Prepare to Stop

A steady yellow traffic light is a warning that the signal is about to turn red. Unless it's unsafe to do so, drivers should slow down and stop before entering the intersection.

Speeding up to "beat the light" can increase the risk of serious crashes, especially at busy intersections.

-A yellow light is not an invitation to accelerate.
-If you can safely stop, do so.
-Stay alert and watch for pedestrians and other vehicles before proceeding.

Traffic Tip Tuesday: Adjust Your Mirrors for a Safer Drive

Before you hit the road:
-Adjust your rearview mirror so you can see directly out of your rear window.
-Minimize blind spots by properly adjusting your side mirrors.
-Check your mirrors every few seconds to stay aware of the traffic around you.
-Always look over your shoulder before changing lanes.

A properly adjusted mirror gives you better visibility, helps you react to hazards more quickly, and can prevent crashes.

Take a few seconds before every trip to make sure your mirrors are set correctly. It could make all the difference.

Sgt. John Clayton - 7/31 will be 13 years of service.
Cpl. Austin Meritt - 7/31 will be 3 years of service.
Ofc. Lawton Thomas - 7/19 will be 3 years of service.
Crime Analyst Sasitan White - 7/18 will be 2 years of service.

Remember, the name on your name plate represents who raised you and the name on your patch represents who hired you. So, go out and represent both with Honor and Integrity!

'Dinner Before The Bell'

School is almost back in session, and we want to help our young students start the year off right!

Join us on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Central Square Gym (200 South Madison Avenue, Douglas, GA 31533) for 'Dinner Before The Bell'. This special event is for kids, giving them the chance to enjoy a FREE dinner before heading back to school.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to bring their children out for an evening of great food, fun, and fellowship with our officers. We can't wait to meet everyone and help send our students back to school with full bellies and big smiles!

We'll see you on July 31st at 4:00 PM!

The Douglas Police Department is accepting donations for Operation: Backpack to help local students start the school year with the supplies they need to succeed.

We are currently accepting new school supplies, including:
-Pencils
-Notebook Paper
-Notebooks
-Journals/Composition Books
-Crayons
-Pens
-Colored Pencils
-Scissors
-Glue Sticks
-Hand Sanitizer
-Tissues
…and other classroom essentials!

Traffic Tip Tuesday

Operation Southern Slow Down

This regional traffic enforcement campaign focuses on reducing speeding and aggressive driving to keep our roads safe for everyone. Our officers will be actively patrolling and using radar and LIDAR to enforce speed limits throughout the week.

Remember: Obey posted speed limits, allow plenty of travel time, and drive courteously. A few extra minutes on the road is worth arriving safely. Together, we can make our community’s streets safer for all.
