The El Paso and Southwestern Railroad depot in Douglas Arizona was an important train station between Texas and California. The Depot was built in 1914 and saw as many as 8 trains daily and carried passengers and copper either way. The depot is considered one of the finest examples of railway architecture of the early 20th century. The building is now the Douglas Police Station and is just one of 400 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places in Douglas.

As our community is preparing for another Douglas vs. Bisbee football rivalry game, I would like to encourage everyone to represent Douglas with pride, respect, and good sportsmanship.
Recently, the Douglas football field was the victim of criminal damage. While this incident is disappointing, I want to remind our community that the Douglas Police Department is actively addressing the matter. We ask the public to allow law enforcement to handle the investigation and to avoid speculation or assigning blame. Our focus should remain on supporting our students and maintaining the positive relationships that have long existed between our communities.

Douglas and Bisbee have shared a respectful rivalry for generations. We have enjoyed many great games and a strong relationship built on mutual respect, competition, and community pride. This week's game in Bisbee should be no different.

As adults, we have a responsibility to set the example for our young athletes. The players on the field have dedicated countless hours to preparing for this season, and they deserve an environment that reflects the values we hope to instill in them. Let's show them that competition can be intense while also being respectful.

I encourage everyone traveling to Bisbee to support our Bulldogs with enthusiasm, treat others with courtesy, and demonstrate the character that makes Douglas proud. Lets keep our focus on the young men and women representing our community on the field.

Let's come together to make this rivalry a positive experience that showcases the best of Douglas and Bisbee.
