Douglas County's newest 4-legged deputy has started his career in style. K9 Cezar, a 2 1/2 year old German Shorthaired Pointer, started training with Deputy Aaron Smith on August 10th and was called into action yesterday to help locate a runaway juvenile. An 11-year-old fled on foot from Chapel Hill Middle School, across Chapel Hill Rd to the strip mall across the street. Deputies were unsuccessful locating the juvenile so, despite still being in training, the decision was made to call out K9 Cezar and Deputy Smith. Within a few minutes Deputy Smith and K9 Cezar located the 11-year-old. K9 Cezar is trained in tracking as well as narcotics detection. He is another valuable asset for the citizens of Douglas County.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is receiving two more K9s! Tryouts were held to find handlers for the new additions. It takes a special law enforcement officer to be a K9 handler so tryouts consist of both physical and mental evaluations.More info about the new K9s coming soon!

Escaped Trusty Captured

UPDATE: At approximately 11:00 hours Inmate Letitia Lynn Bishop was located and captured in Fulton County by Douglas County deputies and members of the U.S. Marshals Service. Sheriff Pounds would like to thank everyone who assisted in the apprehension of this inmate including those officers who worked long hours to have her back in custody in less than 24 hours. He said “You may run from Douglas County, but you can’t hide.”

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office had a female trusty walk off from her detail at the Sheriff's Office around 11:35 hours this morning. She was last seen walking towards Fairburn Road wearing black leggings, grey t-shirt with print on the front and black shoes. Her name is Letitia Lynn Bishop and is described as a white female, 46 years old, 5' 4", and 125 lbs. She was in jail on nonviolent charges and is not considered to be a danger to the community.
