KM Community – Want to Know Why Public Schools Keep Facing Budget Pressure?

Join us, this Tuesday, April 28 at 6:00 PM in the KMHS Library for a Legislative Advocacy School Board Workshop focused on school finance.

The Kettle Moraine School Board will be joined by Cindy Duchow, our local State Representative in Madison, for a discussion on how Wisconsin funds public schools.

If you’ve ever wondered why schools are asked to do more with less, why referendums keep appearing on ballots, or why districts are forced into difficult budget decisions, this is an important opportunity to hear directly from elected leaders and local board members.

This event is open to all residents who want to better understand the state funding system and its impact on Kettle Moraine schools.

The workshop will be followed by the regularly scheduled School Board Meeting at 7:00 PM.

We encourage the community to attend and stay engaged. Public education funding affects all of us.

On the board agenda:

Thanks to the Kettle Moraine School District for putting this session together. The candidate forum takes place on March 4 at 6 PM, and it’s a great chance to hear directly from candidates and learn where they stand on the issues that matter to our schools and community.

One helpful reminder: questions can be submitted at the event and will be used to ask candidates about their positions. If there’s something you’d like to see addressed, this is a good opportunity to ask.

We hope to see a strong turnout and a thoughtful conversation.

As we head into the upcoming election on Tuesday April 7th, we want to share the candidates we believe will help bring thoughtful, balanced leadership back to the Kettle Moraine School Board.

Jay Crouse (Incumbent)
Jay has been a steady (traditional) conservative presence on the board across multiple election cycles. While we have not always agreed with every vote, we value his legal background, independent thinking, and willingness to challenge board groupthink when needed. At a time when strong, reasoned voices matter, Jay brings experience and perspective that help keep conversations grounded and accountable.

Katie Grillaert
Katie’s non-partisan campaign focuses on strengthening public education, listening to families, and keeping board leadership centered on student success and community trust. Her vision emphasizes transparency, collaboration, and decisions that reflect the full KM community rather than outside political agendas. She brings experience in advising critical‑sector organizations on data privacy, security, and AI safety—experience she believes can help Kettle Moraine use AI in ways that are safe, responsible, and focused on students’ best interests.

Why this matters:
These candidates represent an opportunity to bring balance, thoughtful leadership, and a renewed focus on students and public education to our district. With community support, we can help move the board toward constructive, community centered governance that puts local voices and student outcomes first.

Please take time to learn about these candidates, share this information, and donate to help us spread the word about them.
