🐻 BE BEAR AWARE 🐻

Bears are active in our area, and we want to remind everyone to stay alert and help prevent human-bear conflicts.

• Secure trash and keep garbage indoors or in a bear-resistant container when possible.
• Bring pet food inside and remove other food sources that may attract bears.
• Keep grills clean and stored when not in use.
• Keep pets close and under control.
• Never approach or feed a bear.
• If you encounter a bear, give it plenty of space and do not run.

📞 **To report bear activity or concerns, contact Colorado Parks & Wildlife – Durango Office at 970-247-0855. Press 2 for the bear hotline for our area and leave a message. **

For after-hours emergencies involving a bear, contact your local Sheriff’s Office. If there is an immediate threat to human life, call 911.

These cuties were found on a local ranchers property in Egnar. Unfortunately they didn’t have any tags on them. If they’re yours or you know who they belong to please contact the Dolores County Sheriff’s Office at 970-677-2257 so we can get them home safe and sound.

Cross Canyon Fire Update:
Good News and a Cross Canyon Fire Sunset Photo to show it.

Crews worked yesterday and last night and made remarkable progress.

A BLM type four incident command is in charge of this fire currently and it’s being handled by a type two BLM team and the Dove Creek volunteer fire department-who have been on this fire since it was discovered. A type one helicopter is also reserved if needed. It is looking like the acreage is more along the lines of 125-ish acres and the crews expect to have the fire fully contained and knocked down by this evening, August 1. Crossing fingers.

🚨 FIRE RESTRICTIONS UPDATE – DOLORES COUNTY 🚨

Effective **12:00 a.m. **July 31, 2026, Dolores County has returned to Stage 1 Fire Restrictions.

Although recent weather has brought some relief, fire danger still exists. We ask all residents and visitors to remain vigilant and do their part to help prevent wildfires.

Please remember:
🔥 Follow all Stage 1 Fire Restrictions.
🚫 Use caution with any activity that could spark a fire.
🌲 Help protect our communities, firefighters, and public lands.
