Civil Air Patrol, the longtime all-volunteer U.S. Air Force auxiliary, is the newest member of the Air
Force’s Total Force, which consists of regular Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, along
with Air Force retired military and civilian employees. CAP, in its Total Force role, operates a f

leet of 550
aircraft and performs about 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked
by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 78
lives annually. Civil Air Patrol’s 56,000 members nationwide also perform homeland security, disaster
relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. Its members
additionally play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 24,000 young
people currently participating in the CAP cadet program. Performing missions for America for the past
75 years, CAP received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2014 in honor of the heroic efforts of its World
War II veterans. LINKS OR REFERENCES TO INDIVIDUALS OR COMPANIES DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN ENDORSEMENT OF ANY INFORMATION, PRODUCT OR SERVICE YOU MAY RECEIVE FROM SUCH SOURCES. This past Monday, we paused to remember.

Before the games, the food, and the laughter on the water — we honored the men and women who never made it home.

Memorial Day isn't just a long weekend. It's a debt we carry.

This Memorial Day, Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Delaware Wing cadets and senior members from the Delaware Air National Guard (DANG), Brandywine, and Middletown squadrons gathered for our annual picnic — and it was exactly what this day should feel like: Fellowship, gratitude, and joy shared with people bound by the same sense of duty.

The afternoon was full of fishing, kayaking, water boarding, games, and good food surrounded by even better company. This is what Civil Air Patrol is built on.

CAP's 60,000 volunteers give their time, energy, and expertise to their communities, not because they have to, but because service is woven into who they are.

The cadet program transforms young people into aerospace leaders through a curriculum built on leadership, aerospace, fitness, and character — and days like Monday show them what that character looks like in action.

To every fallen service member who made this freedom possible — we see you. We remember. We don't take it lightly.

Today, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We will always be grateful for their dedication to our freedom.

Across generations, Americans have answered the nation’s call — knowing the cost.

Today, members of the Delaware Air National Guard (DANG) Cadet Squadron proudly honored the true meaning of Memorial Day through service, respect, and remembrance.

C/Maj Amiyah Moretz and C/CMSgt Abigail Cranford, both graduates of the Mid-Atlantic Region Honor Guard Academy and members of the DANG Cadet Squadron, performed a dignified flag folding ceremony during the Memorial Day service at Emmorton Baptist Church in honor of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

Through opportunities like this, Civil Air Patrol cadets embody the organization’s core values of Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence, and Respect while developing leadership, citizenship, and a deep appreciation for those who have served before them.

We are proud to see these cadets representing the DANG Cadet Squadron and the Civil Air Patrol mission by serving their community and preserving the traditions that honor America’s fallen heroes. 🇺🇸

Brandywine Cadet Squadron had an outstanding evening of leadership, aerospace, and drill training during this week’s meeting. We were honored to welcome as our guest speaker. Maj Nelson, a U.S. Air Force Reserve officer and worldwide C-17 pilot, currently serves as a Boeing 787 Captain for American Airlines.

Maj Nelson shared her inspiring aviation journey with the cadets and provided valuable advice on Air Force opportunities, aviation careers, leadership, and pursuing goals in the aerospace field. Her experiences and mentorship made a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.

Following the presentation, cadets continued their training with drill practice, drill testing, and mentoring prospective cadets interested in joining the program. The evening concluded with a briefing on the upcoming High Altitude Balloon Challenge, where cadets will apply STEM and teamwork skills in an exciting aerospace project.

A great night of learning, leadership, and aviation inspiration for our cadets!

Serving Our Community — One Festival at a Time!

This past Saturday, May 16th, Cadets and Senior Members of the Brandywine Cadet Squadron had the honor of supporting VFW Post 2907 as volunteers at the Annual Bellefonte Arts Festival in the Town of Bellefonte, Delaware.

Now in its second decade, the Bellefonte Arts Festival is a beloved community tradition held each third Saturday in May along Brandywine Boulevard — filling the streets with local artists, live music, food trucks, and the creative spirit that makes this corner of Delaware so special.

Our members showed up in full force, staffing an information table to educate festival-goers about Civil Air Patrol and the opportunities it provides to young people, and rolling up their sleeves for trash cleanup throughout the event — helping keep this wonderful festival clean and welcoming for all attendees. We contributed nearly 48 hours of community service for the event.

The impact didn't stop there. Several businesses participating in the festival were so impressed by our cadets' professionalism and dedication that they have agreed to display Civil Air Patrol materials in their stores — a tremendous example of the community outreach that CAP strives to embody every day.

We are incredibly proud of our cadets and senior members for representing Brandywine Cadet Squadron with excellence. A special thank you to VFW Post 2907 for the opportunity to serve alongside such dedicated patriots.
