Because of the historical value and being the oldest wooden covered bridge in the state of Kentucky, built 1835, we request funding be provided by the Kentucky General Assembly for repairing the Dover Bridge located in Dover, Kentucky, Mason County.

Work has begun in Fleming County on Grange City and Ringos Mill.  Nice to see a mention of Dover in this as well!

The Kentucky Gateway Museum located in Maysville, Kentucky recently hosted a seminar on wooden covered bridges. Author Melissa Jurgensen spoke on the history of covered bridges in Kentucky. Buffalo Trace Covered Wooden Bridge Authority Chair, Lori Ulrich spoke on efforts to save the Dover Bridge.

Thank you to our friends at the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges. They recently shared information on our efforts in their Fall newsletter. The NSPCB has been instrumental in our efforts. We thank them for drawing attention to not only Dover but all of the Covered Bridges in the Buffalo Trace Area.

Porter says there are 11 covered bridges left in the state of Kentucky. This is the oldest, built in 1835. Six of the other 11 are in counties neighboring Mason County.
