Delaware Public Service Commission

Delaware Public Service Commission The Delaware Public Service Commission regulates public utilities to ensure safe, reliable and reasonably priced services.

The Delaware Public Service Commission (PSC) works to ensure safe, reliable and reasonably priced cable, electric, natural gas, wastewater, water and telecommunications services for Delaware consumers. For those services that are moving toward competitive markets, the Commission makes rules to level the playing field between competing providers, and resolves disputes between these providers. The PSC also supports the Division of the Public Advocate in the complaint process.

Governor Matt Meyer has appointed four new commissioners to the Delaware Public Service Commission, bringing a wide range of experience in energy policy, utility regulation, law, public administration, planning, and land use to Delaware’s utility oversight system.

The new commissioners - Dr. Anthony DePrima, Regina A. Iorii, Michael Richard, and Robert C. Wheatley, each bring decades of professional expertise in public service, regulatory oversight, and infrastructure planning. Together, they will help evaluate utility proposals and ensure decisions reflect a balance of reliability, affordability, and long-term planning for Delaware families and businesses.

Their appointments strengthen the PSC at a critical moment for energy policy and ratepayer protection in Delaware.

With temperatures expected to reach the 90s today, regional grid operator PJM Interconnection has issued a Maximum Generation Alert and Load Management Alert across much of the Mid-Atlantic, including Delaware.

At this time, no customer action is required and there is no emergency. These alerts are part of PJM’s normal procedures during periods of high electricity demand and are intended to help ensure the grid remains reliable.

That said, customers can help reduce strain on the grid and potentially lower their own bills by conserving energy during peak evening hours, especially between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Simple steps like raising your thermostat a few degrees, limiting use of large appliances, and turning off unnecessary lights can make a difference.

As we head into the warmer months, staying informed and using energy wisely can help support grid reliability for everyone.

The Delaware Division of the Public Advocate has joined with Delaware DNREC and Delaware Public Service Commission Staff to submit joint comments on Delmarva’s proposed large load tariff, raising serious concerns about risks to Delaware customers. With support from independent experts, we are urging a more deliberate approach to ensure these complex issues are handled correctly and that any decisions align with ongoing developments at the PJM Interconnection, federal, and state levels, assuring protection for Delawareans from potentially significant costs.
