Leadership Central Delaware Leadership Central Delaware (LCD) creates effective, dynamic and knowledgeable leaders.

The LCD program will prepare the leaders of tomorrow with the information, knowledge and resources they need to make our county a better place to live and work. With 500+ alumni, Leadership Central Delaware (LCD) creates effective, dynamic and knowledgeable leaders. The class is composed of a maximum of 28 participants representing a diverse community. Selection is based upon an individualโ€™s desir

e for involvement in community leadership and Leadership Central Delawareโ€™s goal of bringing together diverse leaders. It is a ten month program beginning in September with an opening retreat focusing on team building and leadership skills and then meets the first Thursday of each month for a full day exploring Economic Drivers such as Agriculture & Agri-Tourism, Tourism, Energy & the Environment and Healthcare, Community Awareness with topics including Government, Criminal Justice & Public Safety and Media and Communications and Business Development including Economic Development and Education. The Closing Retreat will include a program evaluation, a self-evaluation and leadership training including goal setting, time management and much more.

๐Ÿš” LCD โ€™25 Public Safety & Criminal Justice Day! ๐Ÿš’

The Leadership Central Delaware Class of 2025 had an immersive and eye-opening experience on March 6, exploring the critical world of public safety & criminal justice. From law enforcement challenges to emergency preparedness, fire response training, and police academy insights, the day was packed with learning, leadership, and hands-on experiences!

๐Ÿ‘ฎ Key highlights:
โœ… A panel discussion with top law enforcement officials on recruitment, retention & leadership.
โœ… A tour of the Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) to understand crisis response.
โœ… Active shooter preparedness training with the Delaware State Police.
โœ… A visit to the Delaware State Fire School, where hands-on simulations prepare first responders.
โœ… An inside look at the Delaware State Police Academy and the rigorous training process for new cadets.

๐ŸŒŸ Exploring the Treasures of Central Delaware! ๐ŸŒŸ

The Leadership Central Delaware Class of 2025 had an unforgettable Tourism Day, diving into the rich cultural, historical, and recreational gems of Kent County. From the breathtaking landscapes at Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge (Coastal Delaware National Wildlife Refuges) to the soaring history of the Air Mobility Command Museum, and from the artistic wonders of the Biggs Museum of American Art to the high-octane excitement of the Dover Motor Speedway, we experienced it all!

We also had the privilege of learning from tourism leaders during an insightful panel discussion and getting a firsthand look at the incredible contributions tourism makes to our community and economy. Did you know tourism is the 4th largest private employer in Delaware, employing nearly 50,000 people?

The LCD โ€˜25 class pulled the winning ticket for their wheelbarrow of cheer, which raised money for their Community Impact Projects with the Cancer Support Community Delaware and Greater Dover Boys & Girls Club. They had extra donations, so they also drew for three additional prizes! Congratulations to the winners and thank you for supporting the LCD โ€˜25 class and their chosen nonprofits!

๐ŸŒŸ Empowering Future Leaders: LCD Class of 2025 Education Day Recap! ๐ŸŒŸ

Last week, the LCD Class of 2025 took a deep dive into the heart of Central Delawareโ€™s education system, exploring how local schools, colleges, and training centers are shaping the leaders and innovators of tomorrow!

The day kicked off with an inspiring welcome from LCD alum and Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce President Dr. Dina Vendetti '04. From there, the class heard from Dr. Kathy Kennedy-Ratajack from Wilmington University, who shared her leadership journey. At Caesar Rodney School District's John S. Charlton School, Principal Amanda McDonough showcased how they empower students with special needs to thrive and engage in the community. ๐Ÿ’™

Next, Delaware State University's Dean Dr. Michael Casson inspired us with DSUโ€™s entrepreneurial spirit and community impact at the new Downtown Dover DSU CURE sites. After lunch, we headed to First State Military Academy to see how students are mastering leadership through military values. ๐Ÿ’ช

The day wrapped up at Smyrna High School - Delaware with an eye-opening tour of the Career & Technology Education programs led by Jay Davis, where students are gaining real-world skills and certifications! ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

It was an incredible day filled with learning, inspiration, and a strong sense of community. Thank you to all the amazing educators and leaders who shared their work and passion with us! ๐Ÿ’ก

๐ŸŒพ๐ŸšœThe Leadership Central Delaware Class of 2025 enjoyed their October Agriculture & Agri-Tourism Day!๐Ÿšœ๐ŸŒพ

What an incredible day we had on October 3rd, exploring the vital role of agriculture in our community and diving into the growing world of agri-tourism! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿด

๐Ÿšœ Delaware Department of Agriculture (DDA)'s Secretary Michael T. Scuse shared insights on The Impact of Agriculture in Delaware, showing us just how important agriculture is to our state.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ A thought-provoking Panel Discussion โ€“ Being in the Business of Agriculture followed, featuring:
- Georgie Cartanza, UD Cooperative Extension, Statewide Poultry Agent
- Bobbi Jo Webber, Webber Family Farms
- Curt Fifer, Fifer Orchards

We then traveled to Loblolly Acres and Fifer Orchards for tours showcasing their agri-tourism offerings and lunch from the Fifer's Farm Kitchen. ๐Ÿด

Our day wrapped up at Harrington Raceway & Casino, where Matt Sparacino, Jeff Startt, and Martin Davis gave us an exciting Harness Racing Overview & Paddock Tour. ๐Ÿด

It was a truly insightful and engaging day, leaving us with a deeper appreciation for agriculture and agri-tourism in Delaware!
