WE'LL BE RECRUITING AT TONIGHT'S HOMECOMING GAME!🏈

SCPC is excited to be working with Stewart County Coordinated School Health and Stewart County High School to grow a new chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and give local youth a bigger voice in prevention, leadership, and their community!

And when we say student-led, we mean it.
Students will have opportunities to help create campaigns and social media, participate in podcasts and interviews, lead prevention activities, volunteer in the community, work with programs like KATS, attend leadership trainings and conferences, and help decide what issues they believe need more attention. Active members can also become eligible for perks including graduation cords, scholarships, Tennessee Teen Institute, CADCA Mid-Year, and more.
They'll even get a say in the chapter itself...

Parents: If you have a high school student who may be interested, reach out to us! We'd love to get them connected and answer any questions you have.

🏈 Friday: Find us at the SCHS Homecoming Game to learn more and sign up.
🏫 September 10: We'll be at SCHS recruiting and talking with students.
📋 Anytime: Sign-up packets will also be available in the SCHS office.

Completed forms can be returned to Ashley Threatt, Room 217, or Mrs. Paige Gaston in the SCHS office.

And we're not stopping here. We'd love to eventually expand these opportunities to Stewart County Middle School students as well and are currently awaiting the opportunity to begin those conversations.

This isn't about adults deciding what young people need. It's about giving young people the tools, opportunities, and support to lead. ❤️

🌿 If your teen is using ma*****na to cope with stress, anxiety, or difficult emotions, it’s worth a conversation.

Teen emotions can be intense, and learning how to work through those feelings is an important part of growing up. Ma*****na can offer quick relief, but relying on it to feel better can mean teens get less practice using healthy coping skills to manage stress.

Talk about what they’re feeling. Help them find healthy ways to cope. And don’t wait until you suspect they’re using ma*****na to start the conversation.

We are looking for people in recovery that would like to share their story for recovery month! We'd like to do a group zoom with interested parties on Monday the 21st at 10am where we will capture your stories, ask questions, see what advice you'd give those that are struggling with substance misuse disorder, and allow you to give shoutouts to those who encouraged you and supported your road to recovery. 💚 Nominate a champion for youth mental health in our community!

September is Su***de Prevention & Awareness Month, and for our next **Community Champion**, we want to recognize an adult who makes a difference in the mental health and well-being of our youth.

Why does this matter to a prevention coalition? Mental health and substance use prevention are deeply connected. The CDC identifies mental health issues as a risk factor for youth substance use, while supportive families, caring adults and strong school connections can help protect young people from substance use and other risky behaviors. According to the CDC’s 2023 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 28.5% of high school students reported poor mental health, 39.7% experienced persistent sadness or hopelessness, and 20.4% seriously considered attempting su***de.

That’s why we want to celebrate the people who help our youth feel seen, heard, supported and connected. 💜 Nominate a teacher, coach, counselor, mentor, youth leader, first responder, community member, or any other caring adult who is making a positive impact on youth mental health in Stewart County.

It was a fantastic day of Awareness today. Thank you to everyone who shows up and works hard to create an atmosphere of love, understanding, and support within our community.

Overdose Awareness Day is for people with substance misuse disorder, for the loved ones of those who have overdosed, for parents as a reminder to talk to their children about the dangers of substance misuse, and for the kids who are still growing and learning what not to do.

We hope that we raised some awareness today and we hope that even if you weren't comfortable joining us today then you will feel comfortable joining us in other ways to support a recovery friendly and educational environment.
