Dover TN Post 72, The American Legion The Douglas M. Lyons, Dover TN Post 72, The American Legion, Department of Tennessee Lyons Dover Post #72 was officially charted on September 26, 1930.

The post has gone through many changes but still
remains committed to serving Veterans, their families, and our great community. We are attempting to contact and connect veterans from all branches of service (active duty, retired, reserve)
in Stewart County in order to distribute information, provide support for veteran funeral services, conduct Veterans and Memorial Day
ceremonies, and ensuri

The cemetery is located at 174 National Cemetery Drive in Dover, TN. We will meet behind the cemetery lodge. We look forward to seeing you there!

On Thursday, May 28th at 10:00 AM, we need your help removing the flags from Fort Donelson National Cemetery. If you have some time to spare, please join us for this important task. The cemetery is located at 174 National Cemetery Drive in Dover, TN.

5.25.2026. Stewart Co. Memorial Day Ceremony conducted at Fort Donelson National Cemetery. The weather cooperated for those in attendance to honor and remember those who gave their lives for our liberty. Thank you to all who supported and participated in todays ceremony.

5.19.2026. During the Legion 72 Family fellowship meal, Merissa Colbert (l) from Stewart County Soccer and Coach Taylor (r), along with two players, presented Dover Post 72 with a token of appreciation for the posts sponsorship of the Under 6 Soccer team. Post 72 Commander Fred Shaw received the award. This is in keeping with The American Legions support of Children and Youth.

We are currently 1096 wreaths short of the goal of 1730 wreaths to cover every veteran's grave marker for the Annual Wreaths Across America Ceremony. Post72/SAL 72/Unit 72 Meeting Reminder May 19, 2026, at 235 Church Street Dover.
On Behalf of Fred Shaw-Post 72 Commander, Sylvia Bailey-Unit 72 Auxiliary President, and Don Bailey-SAL Squadron Commander. Hope to see you all there. Bring a veteran and their family. Riders Chapter 72 meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 6pm the same location.
5:30pm SAL meeting (bottom floor)
6pm Potluck Meal (Fellowship Hall)
7pm Post meeting (bottom floor)
7 pm Unit meeting (fellowship hall).

4.28.2026. Dover TN 72 American Legion Family
scholarships were presented at the Stewart County High School Black & Gold Awards. On behalf of the Dover Post 72 family, Lisa Polarek made the presentation to the recipients; Trystin Welch-Riders Chapter 72, Max Welker-SAL Squadron72, Brianna Raymond-Post 72, and Addison Collins-Unit 72 recipient. This is the first time all of the Dover TN 72 American Legion family sponsored scholarships and we are proud supporters of Children & Youth and Americanism.

4.21.2026. Meet and greet Dover TN Post 72 Boys State and Auxiliary Unit 72 Girls State selectees. During the Dover TN Legion Family fellowship meal, our selectees had dinner with us and received a monetary donation for them to use at TN Boys/ Girls State. Bill Martin-Boys/Girls State chair and Sylvia Bailey- Unit 72 President, made the presentation. Our other two selectees received their envelope at a later date. Dover TN 72 American Legion family is proud to support Children and Youth and the Americanism Pillar.
