Following the March 19th removal of all of Dover’s Democratic County Committee members for gross violations of the Morris County Democratic Committee (MCDC) bylaws, our new committee has officially been reorganized following our appointment by MCDC Chair Darcy Draeger.
The new committee members gathered this evening to be sworn in to the vacancies resulting from the aforementioned removals. All will serve until June 2027.
T.C. McCourt, a Morris County Democratic State Committeeman and former President of the Morris County Young Democrats, was elected Chair unopposed.
McCourt subsequently appointed Council Member Sandra Wittner (Vice Chair), Former Council Member Karol Ruiz (Recording Secretary & Treasurer), and Maria Chacon (Corresponding Secretary) to the Executive Board.
“I am honored to step into this role,” McCourt said. “It won’t be easy, but I hope to provide the leadership Dover’s Democrats have long desired. We have a lot of bridges to repair and a lot of hard work to do. But I’m here for that work, and so is the rest of the committee.”
Chair McCourt announced that, in addition to the Executive Board positions provided for in the committee’s bylaws, the creation of three new roles dedicated to areas the Committee intends to place major emphasis on over the next 18 months.
Yonatan Lazo will serve as Voter Outreach Coordinator, Lori Ricco will serve as Fundraising & Events Coordinator, and Elizabeth Tapia will serve as Community Engagement Coordinator. Each position will be supported by volunteer committees comprised of both committee members and town residents who are not part of the committee.
Further, it was announced that, in a clean break from the prior committees, the group will adopt a new name - The Democratic Committee of Dover (DCoD). This will be formalized through bylaws changes that will take place over the next 60 days.
