Today Sheriff Mone (middle), Chief Deputy Pardy (right), and Deputy Griffin (left) attended New Hampshire’s Law Enforcement Memorial in Concord, where they honored law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. Chief Deputy Pardy and Deputy Griffin had the honor of placing a flower on the memorial wreath in recognition of Strafford County Deputy Charles E. Smith, who died in the line of duty in 1891.

“On May 6, 1891, Strafford County Deputy Sheriff Charles E. Smith was shot in the hip while apprehending a horse thief. The wounded deputy insisted that the thief not be lynched. Smith succumbed to his wounds on May 23, 1891. A Civil War veteran, Smith was one of Barrington’s Selectmen, had served as town clerk and representative in the legislature, and was also a prominent businessman. A tribute published by the Manchester Union on May 25, 1891, stated: ‘He died in defense of the law and in the attempt to do his duty.’”

We remember Deputy Smith and all law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

Thank you to the brave men and women who continue to protect the people of New Hampshire every day.

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend

🚨SCAM ALERT🚨

Scammers are continuing to contact people in Strafford County. They have been using names of active employees of the Strafford County Sheriff's Office. It has also been reported that they have been "spoofing" phone numbers to make it appear to be a legitimate phone call.

Durning thses calls the person is claiming they have warrants for your arrest and are demanding that payment be made via gift cards, credit cards, and cryptocurrency.

It is best practice to never send anyone who you don't know any type of crpyocurrency or bank wires.

They have started to provide AI generated documents that are "official looking" if you are not familiar with legal paperwork.

📌A Deputy Sheriff will never contact you demanding immediate payment in cash, gift cards, or cryptocurrency for a court related matter or to resolve a warrant.

📌If you have recieved one of these scam calls or have given someone money for this purpose, please call our office at 603-742-4960 and ask to speak with an investigator.

📌If you ever doubt the legitimacy of someone calling you representing our agency please call our Dispatch Center at 603-742-4968. Our dispatchers can verify if the interaction and the Deputy you are speaking with is legitimate.
