Great job Sergeant Adam Schaaf!

The IPFTA would like to congratulate Sgt Adam Schaaf on shooting a perfect score this last weekend at ST Joseph County. These scores are few and far between. He beat the last year’s National Champion (who also was the only one to shoot a perfect score ((I came in second with 1 point down)) by 4 X. Adam will be attending the NPSC this September and I know we will all be rooting for him (to come in second behind me 😂)

I'd like to introduce the newest member of our team, Intern Elizabeth Shaer!
Elizabeth, “Lizzy” recently joined the Pokagon Tribal Police Department as part of the internship program the tribe offers for tribal college students. She is a citizen of the Pokagon band and will be attending Grand Valley State University (GVSU) this fall. She will be working alongside our officers and staff to gain valuable experience in law enforcement and public service.

Throughout the internship, she will have the opportunity to learn about the many responsibilities involved in serving and protecting our community.

We are excited to have Lizzy with us and look forward to helping her develop new skills and gain firsthand experience in the profession.
Please join us in welcoming Lizzy to the department. We are glad to have her on the team and wish her success during this exciting journey!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the La Porte County Sheriff's Office, family, and friends of the deputy who was shot early this morning at Franciscan Health Hospital in Michigan City. The deputy is in critical condition. The suspect was apprehended.

Update from another source:
Deputy Jon Samuelson is in critical condition at a hospital in South Bend, after being shot three times, according to Indiana State Police officials. He’s a 12-year veteran of the Laporte County Sheriff’s office, a K9 handler, and is part of a family of service in our area.

His grandfather is a former Chief of police for Laporte and his father was an officer with Michigan City police dept., who’s now working security at the hospital where his son was shot.

PTPD’s thought and prayers are with you.

🚨 Full-Scale Exercise at PHS 🚨
Today the Pokagon Band conducted a full-scale emergency exercise in partnership with PHS, the Pokagon Tribal Police Department, Pokagon Emergency Management, and the Indian Lake Fire Department.
This exercise was designed to evaluate life safety procedures, evacuation protocols, and the coordination and communication of area first responders during a large-scale emergency scenario.
We are grateful for the collaboration and professionalism of all agencies involved, as well as the cooperation of our Citizens, staff, and community partners. Exercises like these help ensure we are prepared to respond quickly and effectively in the event of a real emergency.

Preparedness through partnership keeps our community safer. 💙🚒🚓
