🚒 Training Night at Indian Lake Fire Department 🚒

Last night, our firefighters spent the evening sharpening their water supply skills and reviewing critical drafting operations. Crews practiced multiple techniques for establishing a water supply, including alternative methods for pulling a draft when a pump primer fails.

Training on both our tanker/pumper and engine allowed members to gain hands-on experience troubleshooting equipment issues and maintaining water flow under challenging conditions. These skills are essential for rural firefighting operations where hydrants may not be available and a reliable water supply can make all the difference.

We are proud of the dedication our members show by continually training to improve their knowledge and preparedness. The more we train, the better equipped we are to serve and protect our community when emergencies happen.

As the weather warms up and grilling season gets underway, Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. would like to remind everyone to practice safe grilling habits this summer.

✔️ Keep grills away from homes, decks, and anything combustible
✔️ Never leave your grill unattended while cooking
✔️ Inspect propane tanks and connections before use
✔️ Clean grease buildup regularly to help prevent flare-ups
✔️ Keep a fire extinguisher or garden hose nearby

This upcoming Sunday is our first pancake breakfast of the season at Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department!

With the upcoming holiday weekend, Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department would like to remind everyone to stay safe while enjoying the water.

Always wear your life jacket — it can save your life in seconds. Make sure your boat has a working fire extinguisher, a stocked trauma or first aid kit, and all required safety equipment before leaving the dock.

Boat smart. Boat sober. Watch out for changing weather conditions, avoid distractions, and keep an eye on everyone onboard. A few minutes of preparation can make all the difference in an emergency.

Let’s make this holiday weekend safe and enjoyable for everyone on the lake. Stay alert, stay prepared, and help everyone make it home safely.

This EMS Week, we want to recognize the dedicated EMTs of Indian Lake Fire Department who spend countless hours providing BLS first response coverage to our community.

From medical emergencies and vehicle crashes to helping neighbors on their worst days, our EMTs continue to answer the call with compassion, professionalism, and dedication.

As a volunteer department, these individuals sacrifice time away from family, work, and personal lives to ensure help is always available when our community needs it most.

Thank you for your commitment to Indian Lake and the surrounding areas. Your dedication truly makes a difference every single day.

This past week, we were proud to be a part of a large-scale training exercise with the Pokagon Band Emergency Management, facilities staff, and Pokagon Band Tribal Police.

A smoke machine was utilized to simulate a fire inside the Health Department building, allowing crews to train in a realistic environment. Firefighters and Tribal Police worked together to complete coordinated searches of the structure while our crews also performed both primary and secondary searches throughout the commercial occupancy.

Additional training objectives included connecting to the FDC without flowing water and stretching our rope bucket hose line through the structure to determine hose deployment needs from different fire locations within the building.

This was a great exercise and valuable experience for everyone involved. We appreciate the opportunity to train together and strengthen our working relationship. Hopefully this is the first of many more drills to come as we continue preparing for real-world emergencies
