Yesterday, Sister Lakes Firefighters joined firefighters from the Keeler Township Fire Department for a day of training focused on recreational water incidents and emergency response on our area lakes.

The day began in the classroom, where firefighters discussed the different types of emergencies we may encounter on the water, the unique challenges these incidents can present, and ways we can continue improving our response. The training also generated several great ideas for enhancing our water-response capabilities—ideas we look forward to working toward and implementing in the future.

Following the classroom portion, crews took to the water for hands-on training. Firefighters worked through a scenario involving an injured patient in the water, practicing how to safely stabilize the patient, secure them to a backboard, transfer them into our watercraft, and safely transport them back to shore.

With so many lakes in the community we serve, being prepared for water-related emergencies is an important part of what we do. Training together allows us to improve our skills while also strengthening the communication and teamwork between departments that are often called upon to work side-by-side during an emergency.

Thank you to the firefighters from the Keeler Township Fire & Rescue Department for joining us and helping make this a productive day of training.

School is officially back in session today! As students head back for a brand-new school year, we would like to remind everyone to slow down, stay alert, and help keep our kids safe.

* Watch for school buses — flashing red lights and an extended stop arm mean STOP.
* Slow down in school zones and watch closely for children walking or biking.
* Put the phone down and keep your attention on the road.
* Allow a little extra time for morning and afternoon traffic.
* Be especially careful around bus stops, intersections, and neighborhoods.

Our kids are counting on all of us to make sure they get to school and back home safely every day.

From all of us at Sister Lakes Fire Department, we wish our students, teachers, staff, bus drivers, and families a safe, successful, and wonderful school year!

🚒 The Niles Burn Run will be traveling through the Sister Lakes area today, with riders expected around 12:30 PM.

If you’re able, come out, line the route, and show your support for these incredible riders and the burn survivors they ride for. Bring your flags, wave as they pass, and help us give them a warm Sister Lakes welcome!

Please use caution along the route and expect brief traffic delays.

🇺🇸 Thank You, Sister Lakes! 🇺🇸

On behalf of everyone at the Sister Lakes Fire Department, we want to extend our sincere gratitude to our incredible community for making yesterday’s Independence Day celebration such a tremendous success.

Because of your support, our 2026 Annual Fire Department T-shirts are almost completely sold out! We have only a handful remaining in a few select sizes. Thank you to everyone who purchased a shirt and continues to support us. Every purchase helps us continue serving the community we are proud to call home.

We also want to offer a special thank you to everyone who showed us kindness, patience, and understanding over the past couple of days. In the 24 hours since the storms arrived, your firefighters responded 17 storm-related emergency calls while continuing preparations for yesterday’s event. Many of you offered us cold bottles of water, words of encouragement, and understanding when our crews had to close roads in order to clear trees. Those gestures meant more than you know.

Yesterday was a reminder of what makes the Sister Lakes community so special. Whether you stopped by for a tour of the apparatus, purchased a T-shirt or challenge coin, waved during the parade, or simply took a moment to stop in and say hello, you helped make the day memorable.

From all of us at the Sister Lakes Fire Department, thank you for standing behind your fire department. We are honored to serve this amazing community every day.

We hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Independence Day.
