"We have provided critical support items such as vision healthcare services - eye exams and eyeglasses - for individuals who had to leave personal belongings behind, as well as transportation assistance, feminine hygiene products, toiletries, groceries assistance, and vouchers for immediate meals for those escaping dangerous situations. These items are critically important for individuals leaving abusive environments because many survivors flee with little or nothing, often prioritizing immediate safety over personal possessions.
Access to basic essentials helps restore dignity, reduce immediate stress, and provide a sense of stability during an incredibly traumatic and uncertain time. Transportation assistance helps survivors travel to shelters, other social service agencies, medical appointments, work, court hearings, or counseling services. Hygiene products, food, and meal vouchers address urgent day-to-day needs when survivors may have no financial resources available to them. Vision care is also essential, as the loss of eyeglasses or access to vision services can create barriers to employment, caring for children, attending school, or navigating unfamiliar environments safely. By helping meet these immediate needs, Hope’s Front Door assists survivors to focus on healing, rebuilding their lives, and moving toward long-term safety and independence."
