We are dedicated to being a welcome entrance for those in need of immediate assistance, providing vital services with care, compassion, and respect. Our mission is not only to address the immediate challenges our clients f

ace but to also light the way forward, directing them to further resources and support. We are a resource for DuPage County residents seeking assistance with some of their most pressing concerns. These individuals and families are in crisis, and include the working poor, the recently unemployed and the chronically unhoused. Our community partners needed a trusted friend to help their members, and we are here to serve. With more than 300 client visits each month, Hope’s Front Door is organized to train interview-volunteers, track all client visits and maintain an extensive list of helping agencies for extended assistance. By establishing visit and annual assistance limits, we provide a reasonably fair distribution of the communities’ resources. “Yearly eye exams are incredibly important, especially as children head back to school. In Illinois, children entering kindergarten are required to have an eye exam, and for good reason — if children can’t see well, it can affect their ability to learn.
Sometimes a vision problem may initially appear to be a learning difficulty when, in fact, a child simply isn’t seeing as well as they should. Comprehensive eye exams can also identify concerns such as eye turns, lazy eye, or significant prescription needs early. By identifying and addressing these issues, we can help make sure children have the best possible vision so they can learn and succeed in the classroom.”

This year, Hope’s Front Door is excited to partner with Midwestern University’s Eye Institute and Dental Institute as part of our Ready. Set. Learn! school supply distribution.

Together, we are helping students prepare for a successful school year by connecting families with opportunities for comprehensive eye exams and oral health exams. These important services are available not only to students, but also to their parents and guardians - who so often put their own health needs last while caring for their families. By bringing together school supplies, health resources, and other support, Ready. Set. Learn! is helping families begin the school year healthy, prepared, and ready to succeed.

Looking for a meaningful way to give back? Hope's Front Door is seeking compassionate volunteers to serve as Client Interview Volunteers.

Whether meeting with clients in person or over the phone, you'll listen to their story, assess their needs, provide vouchers, enroll eligible clients in our Pathways programs, and connect them with trusted community partners. But perhaps the most important thing you'll provide is a caring human connection. Many of the individuals and families we serve feel alone, overlooked, or unsure where to turn. Your kindness, compassion, and willingness to listen can remind them that they matter and that hope is possible.

“Earlier this year, my SNAP benefits changed, and I'm now only receiving $27. As an elderly person living with a disability, I've been confused about the changes and what's required of me to get my benefits corrected. I am so grateful that Hope’s Front Door has been there to help fill the gap while I work through these issues. The food assistance has been such a blessing, but they also give me pantry lists and a Community Kitchen calendar so I know where I can find additional meals and food. It gives me peace of mind knowing I have somewhere to turn for help.”
