SB 296 could save eligible California disabled veterans nearly $1,100 per month on an $800,000 home.

By combining a VA loan with the new property-tax exemption, qualifying veterans may receive a 50% or 100% exemption on taxable home value up to $1 million beginning in 2027.

Actual savings will depend on income, interest rate, insurance, taxable value and other housing costs.

Big win for California’s disabled veterans! 🇺🇸🏡

Governor Newsom has officially signed SB 296, expanding the property-tax exemption for eligible veterans rated 100% disabled or paid at the 100% rate through TDIU.

Beginning in 2027, qualifying veterans may receive:

✅ A 50% exemption on taxable home value up to $1 million
✅ A 100% exemption for qualifying lower-income households
✅ Similar benefits for eligible unmarried surviving spouses

The exemption is not automatic—you’ll need to apply through your county assessor and provide proof of eligibility.
