The fire service is often described as one big family β a brotherhood and sisterhood unlike any other. Like all families, we laugh together, disagree at times, work through challenges, and celebrate accomplishments. But when life becomes difficult, that family always comes together to support one another.
Last night was a perfect example of what the fire service is truly about.
As many of you know, George "Bud" Turner of the West Whiteland Fire Company tragically passed away last week. His family, friends, and firehouse family are now preparing to say goodbye to a man who dedicated so much of his life to serving others.
Many of our members at East Brandywine Fire Company had the privilege of knowing Bud and working alongside him on countless emergency incidents over the years. In honor of his memory, 15 members of EBFC traveled to Station 6 on Friday evening to assist the members of West Whiteland Fire Company in preparing their apparatus for the upcoming funeral services.
For several hours, crews worked side-by-side washing and detailing apparatus, while also spending valuable time with the members of Station 6 to offer support, friendship, and a helping hand during this difficult time. It was a small gesture, but one made from the heart β and something we know they would do for us without hesitation.
This is what the fire service is all about. When one department hurts, we all hurt. When one department needs help, we all answer the call.
Please join us in keeping the Turner family, the members of West Whiteland Fire Company and all of Bud's friends and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead as they lay this remarkable man to rest.
Rest easy, Bud. Your service, friendship, and legacy will never be forgotten.
