Redmond, Jr., Glenn Marshall
July 7, 1950 - November 25, 2021
Glenn Marshall Redmond, Jr., of Greensboro, died on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2021 at the age of 71. While his cause of death was ultimately stubbornness, he lived a life full of confidence and achievements. In the class of 1968 at Northeast Guilford High School, he was a prolific athlete participating in wrestling, baseball and football and is remembered as "Golden Toe Redmond," the kicker on the football team who never missed a field goal. Later in life many knew him as "Big Dog" for his exploits operating a drag car racing team. Several of his cars, including his 1963 Corvette, painted with the image of Superman, won 29 races at the Piedmont Dragway. He was also an avid guitar player and singer, bass fisherman, a trophied pool player, a firearm enthusiast, and a former Master Mason of the Revolution Masonic Lodge. In his younger days he ran several miles a day and enjoyed displaying feats of his physical strength. He worked as a deputy on the Guilford County sheriff's department for many years and operated a successful masonry contracting business, Glenn Redmond Masonry, for over 25 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Redmond, his adoring children, Sandy Redmond of Knoxville, TN, Mimi Redmond Williams of Sedgefield, NC and Jackson Glenn Redmond of San Diego, CA, his grandchildren Charlotte Williams and Dawson Williams and his brother, Donald Redmond, and family of Greensboro. His friends are too many to name and he treasured them all. He is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Marshall Redmond, Sr., and Faye Eller Redmond.
His family is extremely grateful to the extraordinary staff at Beacon Place Hospice who made Glenn's final days so peaceful.
A casual celebration of life event is being hosted by his family on Sunday, December 12, 2021 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Greensboro Shrine Club at 5010 High Point Road in Greensboro.
