Chyi-lyi “Kathleen” Liang, Ph.D., W.K. Kellogg Distinguished Professor of Sustainable Agriculture, joined Yimesker Yihun, Ph.D., Ford Motor Company Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and Vice Chancellor for Research Lisa Clough, Ph.D., at the CAA AI Summit this week.
Liang and Yihun are among just 22 faculty and staff selected from nearly 400 applicants across 13 institutions for the inaugural AI Technologies Champion Network cohort.

A scoop of southern Americana! Our decadent sweet potato ice cream with praline pecan morsels and a rich caramel ribbon celebrates Southern culture and North Carolina's place as the #1 U.S. producer of sweet potatoes. Elliot Hughes, creamery manager at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, was at with Association of Public and Land-grant Universities on Tuesday. While showcasing our signature flavor, we engaged with lawmakers on Capitol Hill about how university ag research, extension, and workforce development drive innovation that supports dairy producers and the future of agriculture.
Thank you to Elliot, Alana V. Allen, and Oliver M. Thomas, Ph.D., for delivering the inside scoop on the importance of university agricultural programs!

Hands-on learning, real solutions, and a great day at the farm 💙💛
Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T hosted its first-ever Organic W**d Management Field Day at the University Farm — bringing together farmers and agricultural professionals for an engaging, hands-on experience focused on managing weeds without synthetic herbicides 🌱
Participants explored innovative tools and techniques through live demonstrations led by:
• Hannah Talton, D.P.M., Extension plant pathology and integrated pest management specialist
• Joseph Rowland and Sara Runkel of the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association
• Krystel Hudicourt-Pierre of Tilmor by Venture Products
From equipment demos to practical strategies, the day was filled with learning, collaboration and solutions that support sustainable agriculture.

Join us in welcoming this group of interns to Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T State University! 💙💛
Macaria Mewborn, a student at N.C. A&T State University, is serving in Pitt County, and Alivia Chasten, also from A&T, is working in Duplin County.
Chantal Fountain, a student at UNC-Pembroke, is gaining experience in Wake County, while Chandler Kearsey, an East Carolina University student, is supporting Extension efforts in Warren County.
Along the way, our interns are also connecting with one another and sharing their experiences across counties. We’re excited to see the impact they’ll make this summer!
