🗳️ PINELLAS COUNTY ELECTION UPDATE: UNOFFICIAL LOCAL & NONPARTISAN RESULTS

In addition to the partisan primary contests, Pinellas County voters also cast ballots Tuesday in several important school board, judicial and municipal elections.

Here is where those races stand based on the unofficial results from the August 18 election:

🏫 PINELLAS COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD

✅ District 2 At-Large: Lisa Cane received a majority of the vote and has won reelection.

➡️ District 3 At-Large: Dawn Peters and Curtis Campogni finished as the top two candidates. Because no candidate received a majority, they will advance to the November 3 General Election.

🔍 District 6 Single Member: Amanda Lord and Nancy Nelis Bostock are separated by an extremely narrow margin. This race remains one to watch as the canvassing process continues and any required recount procedures are completed.

⚖️ JUDICIAL RACES

✅ Sixth Judicial Circuit, Group 39: Elizabeth “Liz” Constantine received a majority of the vote and has won the election.

✅ Sixth Judicial Circuit, Group 44: Elizabeth “Liz” Jack received a majority of the vote and has won reelection.

✅ Pinellas County Judge, Group 10: Nick Fiorentino received a majority of the vote and has won the election.

🌴 ST. PETERSBURG

➡️ Mayor: Charlie Crist and Kenneth T. Welch finished as the top two candidates. With no candidate receiving a majority, they will advance to the November 3 election.

➡️ City Council District 6: Linsey Grove and Trevor Mallory finished as the top two candidates and will advance to the November 3 election.

🌊 CLEARWATER

✅ City Council Seat 4: Jared Leone received a majority of the vote and has won the seat.

➡️ City Council Seat 5: Sam Wilson and Mark Bunker finished as the top two candidates. Because no candidate received a majority, they will advance to the November 3 election.

🏘️ OLDSMAR

✅ City Council Seat 3 Special Municipal Election: Amber Stephens received the most votes in Tuesday’s special election.

Unlike the other nonpartisan contests continuing to November, this was a special municipal election to fill the remainder of the Seat 3 term. The result remains unofficial pending certification, with the Oldsmar Municipal Canvassing Board scheduled to declare the final result on August 25.

These school board, judicial and municipal contests are nonpartisan elections. Candidates do not appear on the ballot with a political party designation.

We are sharing this update strictly as a voter-information resource so Pinellas residents know what was decided Tuesday, which results are still being finalized, and which races will continue to November.

Results remain unofficial while the canvassing process continues.

31.64% turnout may sound low — until you compare it to the right elections.

This was a midterm primary, not a presidential general election. And in Pinellas County, turnout was almost exactly in line with the last two comparable primaries:

2018: 31.5%
2022: 31.8%
2026: 31.64% unofficial

So no, this was not a turnout collapse. This is very close to the recent norm for a Pinellas midterm primary.

There is also an encouraging story in the party numbers.

Democrats cast 78,139 ballots, compared with 84,482 Republican ballots. Republicans still cast more ballots overall, but they also have significantly more registered voters in Pinellas County.

When you look at turnout relative to the size of each party, Democrats appear to have outperformed Republicans in participation rate. That means Democratic voters punched above their weight in this election.

That does not mean our work is done. We should always want more people voting, more people informed, and more people engaged.

But context matters.

The takeaway is simple: turnout was normal for this type of election, and Democratic participation was strong.

🗳️ 2026 PRIMARY ELECTION UPDATE: OUR DEMOCRATIC TEAM IS SET

With unofficial results from Tuesday’s Primary Election now in, we congratulate the Democratic nominees chosen by voters across Florida and here in Pinellas County.

Now, we turn our attention toward November.

🏛️ STATEWIDE RACES

💙 David Jolly and Gwen Graham have won the Democratic nomination for Governor and Lieutenant Governor and will advance to the November 3 General Election.

💙 Angie Nixon has won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate and will advance to the November General Election.

💙 Annette Taddeo has won the Democratic nomination for Chief Financial Officer and will advance to November.

💙 Joey Mendoza Atkins has won the Democratic nomination for Commissioner of Agriculture and will advance to November.

🇺🇸 CONGRESSIONAL RACES REPRESENTING PINELLAS

💙 Leela Gray has won the Democratic nomination for Congressional District 13 and will advance to the November General Election.

💙 Kelly Kirschner has won the Democratic nomination for Congressional District 16 and will advance to the November General Election.

🏛️ FLORIDA SENATE

💙 Karla Kemp has won the Democratic nomination for State Senate District 18 and will advance to the November General Election.

💙 Fentrice Driskell has won State Senate District 16 in a Universal Primary Contest.

Because no opposing-party candidate qualified for the race, Tuesday’s election determined the winner. Driskell is elected to the Florida Senate and will not face another opponent in November.

💙 Kyandra Darling has won Florida House District 62 in a Universal Primary Contest.

Because no opposing-party candidate qualified, Tuesday’s election determined the winner. Darling is elected to the Florida House and will not face another opponent in November.

Congratulations to Fentrice Driskell, our next State Senator for District 16!

The race has been called for Fentrice Driskell.

Because Senate District 16 had no Republican or other-party candidate in the race, tonight’s Universal Primary decided the seat outright. Fentrice Driskell has been elected to the Florida Senate and will not face another opponent in November.

📊 Pinellas Democrats showed up.

The 7:10 PM unofficial turnout update shows 188,192 ballots cast countywide, for 31.09% turnout.

Here’s the encouraging part for Democrats:

76,353 Democrats voted, which is roughly 40% of registered Democrats in Pinellas.

By comparison, about 34.6% of registered Republicans voted.

Republicans still cast more ballots overall, but they also have roughly 50,000 more registered voters in Pinellas. Despite that registration advantage, the raw ballot gap was only about 7,100 votes.

That means Democrats once again overperformed our share of the electorate. We are about 31.5% of registered voters, but accounted for roughly 40.6% of ballots cast in this update.

That is a strong turnout story and something worth recognizing.

Thank you to every voter, volunteer, candidate, organizer, poll worker, and election worker who helped make today possible.

When Democrats organize, communicate, and show up, we can compete.

📊 Pinellas Democrats are showing up.

At the 6 PM turnout update, 73,662 Democrats have already voted in today’s primary.

Here’s the important part: Democrats make up about 31.5% of registered voters in Pinellas, but we account for about 40.6% of all ballots cast so far.

That means roughly 38.6% of registered Democrats have voted, compared with about 33.3% of registered Republicans.

Republicans still have more ballots cast overall, but they also have roughly 50,000 more registered voters in Pinellas. Despite that advantage, the gap in ballots cast is only about 6,700 votes.

That is something worth celebrating.

Democrats are turning out at a stronger rate than our registration numbers would predict. Now we keep pushing through 7 PM and finish strong.

If you are in line by 7 PM, stay in line and vote.

🗳️ 6:00 PM PINELLAS TURNOUT UPDATE

As of 6:00 PM Monday, August 17, Pinellas County has already recorded 117,490 ballots cast ahead of tomorrow’s Primary Election.

That puts countywide turnout at 19.41% among 605,325 active eligible voters.

Ballots cast by party:
• Democratic: 50,009
• Republican: 47,079
• No Party Affiliation: 18,333
• Other: 2,069

Democratic voters currently account for the largest share of ballots cast, but tomorrow is Election Day and there are still hundreds of thousands of eligible Pinellas voters who have not yet participated.

If you have not voted yet, make your plan now.

🗳️ PINELLAS LEADS FLORIDA IN VOTE-BY-MAIL!

This is something worth highlighting.

Florida Politics is reporting that Pinellas County is leading Florida in vote-by-mail participation ahead of Primary Election Day.

More than 91,000 vote-by-mail ballots have already helped push Pinellas to an unofficial turnout of roughly 19% — ahead of neighboring Hillsborough County at about 16%.

That level of participation matters. It represents thousands upon thousands of Pinellas voters making their voices heard before Election Day even begins.

To every voter who has already returned a ballot or voted early: thank you for participating in our democracy.

And we’re not finished yet.

Sorry for the late posting, folks! Sharing this now for anyone who can jump in and help with tonight’s Election Eve GOTV phonebank.

The Florida Democratic Party is hosting a statewide virtual Election Eve phonebank.

Volunteers will make calls from home using the Scale to Win dialer. The system keeps your personal phone number private and connects you only when someone answers. Training and support will be provided, and no previous phonebanking experience is required.

What you’ll need:
• Smartphone
• Headset, earbuds, or AirPods recommended
• Laptop or tablet preferred, but not required
