Last May, CB art teachers received a request following the March 2025 fire at the Magil Schoolhouse, the main building of the Doylestown Historical Society. After a series of meetings with DHS volunteers, art teachers led by Mrs. Rebeca Dunst at Lenape Middle School planned to create four murals to commemorate Doylestown history in honor of the nation’s 250th birthday. The murals would ultimately be installed on the grounds of DHS near the site of the fire.
With support from the Central Bucks Education Foundation, which provided funding for the project, students from CB West and Lenape and Unami middle schools, along with Mrs. Dunst, spent much of the school year collaborating on the design and painting of murals that depict the history of the Starbucks building, the Civil War Museum, Delaware Valley University, and CB West.
The murals were unveiled last night at DHS as students, families, educators, volunteers, community members, and Doylestown Mayor Noni West gathered to celebrate the students’ beautiful and lasting contributions to Doylestown history.
Congratulations to Eve Childers, a ninth grader at Lenape, who designed and painted the Starbucks mural, with fellow ninth grader Julianna Hilton contributing; CB West sophomore Adelyn Valmore, who designed and painted the Civil War museum mural, with seventh grader Ellise Lee contributing; and Lenape ninth grader Cohen Pangilinan, Lenape seventh graders Josie Good and Ellise Lee, and Unami seventh grader Cora Dunst, who contributed to the Delaware Valley University mural. Mrs. Dunst designed the Delaware Valley University mural and also designed and painted the CB West mural.
Thank you to Mrs. Dunst and all the art teachers involved, the volunteers at DHS, the Central Bucks Education Foundation for helping make this project possible, and most notably the students whose creativity and talents are now a part of historic Doylestown’s story for years to come!
