A County bridge in Bensalem was recently dedicated to Cpl. Hugh William Elmore who died in the Vietnam War just shy of his 19th birthday. Elmore, known to his friends as “Hughie,” spent seven years at St. Francis Industrial School in Bensalem before enlisting in the Army at 17. Elmore died on March 25, 1966, in a field hospital after being wounded by an exploding mortal shell.
The bridge dedicated to Elmore is the twenty-third County-owned bridge named for a local soldier lost in the Vietnam War as part of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge Program in partnership with the Pennsylvania Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (PAVVMF). Read more: https://tinyurl.com/4wx4ymjy
