Now Accepting Planning Commission Applications

The City of Drain is now accepting applications for two key openings on the Planning Commission. These positions play a central role in shaping the future of our community.

Position #2
Term: January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2027

Position #3
Term: January 1, 2026 – December 31, 2028

The Planning Commission is one of the city’s most influential advisory bodies. It helps set long‑term direction, recommends policy and legislation to the City Council, and ensures that development aligns with community goals and state law. Responsibilities may include:

• Reviewing and updating the Comprehensive Plan to reflect changing needs and legal requirements.
• Evaluating the Development Ordinance, Development Standards, Public Improvement Code, and related regulations to ensure consistency with the city’s vision.
• Recommending detailed plans for public facilities, housing, economic development, transportation, recreation, energy conservation, and natural resources.
• Assisting in identifying and developing funding sources for public projects that support community growth.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on Drain’s future and contribute to decisions that shape the community for years to come.

Completed applications must be submitted by Monday, July 6, 2026.

The City of Drain would like to share important wildfire prevention information from the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) regarding the 2026 Public Use Restrictions now in effect throughout protected lands in Douglas County.

As fire season approaches and vegetation conditions continue to dry, community preparedness and wildfire prevention become increasingly important. Public Use Restrictions are designed to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires and help protect lives, property, natural resources, and responding firefighters.

Important Restriction Information
The current DFPA Public Use Restrictions include regulations regarding:

Debris burning
Campfires and open fires
Fireworks and exploding targets
Smoking while traveling
Motor vehicle use on forestlands
Power saw operation
Welding, grinding, and metal cutting
Mowing and power-driven machinery use
Restrictions vary depending on the current fire danger level, which may be classified as Low, Moderate, High, or Extreme. Certain activities may be prohibited entirely or restricted to specific hours of the day.

Community members are encouraged to carefully review the attached DFPA Public Use Restriction charts for detailed information regarding activities permitted during each fire danger level.

Before You Burn
Prior to conducting any debris burning, residents are encouraged to utilize the Before You Burn website and mobile app.

This resource helps residents determine:

Whether burning is currently allowed
Which agency regulates burning within their area
Who must be contacted before burning
Current burn bans and seasonal restrictions
The Before You Burn platform is one of the easiest ways for residents to stay informed and compliant with local burning regulations.

Wildfire Preparedness Reminders
Lookingglass Rural Fire District encourages all residents to begin preparing now for wildfire season by:

Creating and maintaining defensible space around homes and structures
Preparing emergency evacuation plans
Packing and maintaining emergency go-bags
Staying informed on current fire danger levels and restrictions
Checking restrictions before traveling or recreating in forested areas
Wildfire prevention is a shared responsibility. Through preparation, awareness, and compliance with fire season regulations, we can work together to help protect the Lookingglass community and surrounding areas.

Planned Power Outage Notice

Keyline Construction will be conducting electrical work on Saturday, May 30, from 9:00 AM to approximately 3:00 PM. During this time, a planned power outage will be required to safely connect newly installed wires to the electric system.

Streets affected:
Lane Avenue, Drain Section Rd, Date St, John Ave, Silver Ave, and Inez Ave.

Power Outage - City of Drain customers will be affected by a Douglas Electric power outage Wednesday, May 13th, from 8 am to approximately 1 pm. See the attached map for outage area. Everything inside the green dotted/shaded area is the outage area, including 902 Division Ave. that was inadvertently left out of the shaded area.

Drain City Hall will be closed May 13, 2026, will resume business at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, May 14th. Please call City Hall at 541-836-2417 for information.

Drain, Oregon — April 23, 2026 — The City of Drain has approved moving forward with the nomination of the Pass Creek Covered Bridge to the National Register of Historic Places, marking a major step toward formally recognizing and preserving one of the community’s most significant historic resources.
