Draper Park Middle School

Draper Park Middle School Draper Park Middle School opened in August of 2013. It was built as a replacement for Crescent View Middle and was renamed to honor the Draper area.

It was built as a replacement for Crescent View Middle and was renamed to honor the Draper area in which it’s built. The faculty and staff from CVMS moved to the new building. CVMS has operated since 1986. The Canyons Board of Education voted Tuesday, June 18, 2013 to name the new school Draper Park Middle School — a name suggested by the Crescent View School Community Council. The Board of Educat

ion had asked the SCC to discuss the possibility of a new moniker because the school’s new site, at 13133 S. 1300 East, is outside the historic Crescent area, located in the southwest corner of Sandy. At a May 30, 2013 meeting, the community council voted unanimously to urge the Board to change the school’s name, and selected Draper Park, Canyon Creek and Canyon Hollow as possibilities. Board member Robert Green said the new name hearkens to Draper’s history. The city’s Draper Park School, which was built in 1912 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was named in honor of John R. Park, a prominent educator in the late 1800s who also taught school in Draper.

“That puts it into perspective,” Green said. “We value people who are trailblazers and value education in our communities." Board member Tracy Scott Cowdell also said the old Crescent View, 11150 S. 300 East, which will be used for the next few years as temporary housing for students whose schools are being rebuilt, should retain the name that ties it to its community. “The fact of the matter is that, yes, we are moving the school,” he said. “But the name should remain in the community.”

The school, funded by the $250 million bond approved by the public in 2010, will have a 700-seat auditorium; an expanded cafeteria, kitchen and a spacious commons area; three academic wings that will house high-tech classrooms; a gymnasium with two full courts, fitness rooms; fully integrated computer suites and a media center with green screen TV production studio.

💗 Wear Pink for Bailey – Monday, August 18 💗

As we begin this school year, we honor the memory of one of our own, Bailey Mallard, who tragically passed away this summer. Bailey’s vibrant spirit and kind heart touched so many in the DPMS community, and she will be deeply missed.

To celebrate Bailey’s life and show support for her family and friends, we invite all students, staff, and faculty to wear pink on the first day of school. This simple gesture will help us come together as a community to remember Bailey.

Our counseling team will be available for anyone who needs support during this time—please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Let’s make this year great by following the mantra Bailey lived by:
✨ "Be better today than you were yesterday." ✨

Congratulations, Andy!! National Educational Support Professional of the Year!

Congratulations to Andy Markus, the 2025 NEA Education Support Professional of the Year! Andy is an Assistant Facilities Manager at Draper Park Middle School in Utah. He knows that the pride and care we put into our school environments reflects in the success of our students, and his work goes beyond maintaining a building—he’s fostering a community where students and staff feel proud to be. Part of creating that environment includes getting to know the students, whether that’s in the hallways between classes, or at the after school mentoring program he launched. We are so proud to name him our ESP of the Year, so please join us in celebrating his work!

What’s up, Draper Park? I was walking down the hall this morning and I noticed our FACS B students doing some investigative work as they learn about kitchen and food safety. Can you identify the safety risks that were staged in our lab kitchens?

Stay Safe and Cook On!

What’s up Draper Park?

We’re going old school today at The Park! Our internet service is down due to a break in the fiber optic line that services the school.

Teachers are ready to go, but our phones (except for 911 service) and email are down.

We won’t be able to take calls for check-outs or excusals today. Teachers will be taking roll and entering it into Skyward as soon as they can.

We’ll keep you posted on things as they are repaired.

If you need to communicate with someone at the school you can call the district office at 801-826-5000 or email [email protected]. Administrators will also be checking email on our cell phones throughout the day.

So far it’s business as usual - It’s gonna be a great day at The Park - we hope you have a great one, too!!
