We had a great day this morning at the 4-way stop in Dukedom during our “Fill the Boot” fundraiser. Thanks to the generosity of everyone that donated, we raised over $1,000 in just 5 hours!

We would like to thank everyone who stopped by and donated. These funds will help cover the cost of our upcoming 4th of July Celebration on July 18th. 🇺🇸🚒

A special thank you to Assistant Chief John Dortch, Treasurer Melisa Fulcher, and Firefighters Brittany Henderson, Josh Capps, and Clint McCaig for volunteering their time and helping make today a success.

And of course, we can’t forget our wonderful Chief Sean Fulcher for his leadership and dedication to the department and community.

Thank you all again for your continued support of the Latham/Dukedom Volunteer Fire Department!

Today we had a special visit from Girl Scouts Troop 40241!

The troop stopped by the station and generously donated cookies for our firefighters. The girls also got a tour of the station and had the chance to check out the fire trucks and equipment.

We truly appreciate the support from our community and want to thank Troop 40241 for thinking of us. We enjoyed having everyone at the station today!

The Latham Dukedom Volunteer Fire Department is pleased to announce we have been selected as a recipient of the 2026 Emergency Drinking Water for Wildland Firefighters program, provided by Anheuser-Busch in partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC).

This award will supply our department with a full pallet of 2,352 canned waters, strengthening our ability to support firefighter hydration during wildland fire operations and other demanding emergency responses.

We are grateful for this investment in firefighter safety and deeply appreciate both Anheuser-Busch and the NVFC for their ongoing dedication to volunteer fire services and the communities we protect.

Today’s large fire in Henry, Tennessee showed exactly why the fire service deserves more respect and support than it often receives. Departments from all over responded without hesitation, working together for one purpose — helping people in need.

What many fail to realize is that a huge number of those firefighters are VOLUNTEERS. That means they left their paying jobs, walked away from family time, missed meals, lost sleep, and put themselves in dangerous situations — all with little to no compensation. They did it because somebody needed help.

While most people were spending time with their families or relaxing at home, volunteer firefighters were gearing up, responding to a major incident, battling exhaustion, and risking injury for a community that may not even know their names.

Volunteer fire departments are struggling everywhere. Lack of funding, lack of manpower, and lack of community support are becoming a serious issue. Yet when the tones drop, they still show up. Every single time.

So the next time your local fire department has a fundraiser, asks for support, or is looking for volunteers, remember days like today. These departments are not “playing firefighter.” They are protecting homes, property, and lives — including yours.

Support your local fire department before your community realizes too late just how much it depends on them.

Sincerely,
Chief Sean Fulcher
Latham/Dukedom Volunteer Fire Department

Latham/Dukedom Fire Dept Receives Grant-Funded Equipment!

Recently, LDFD was awarded funding through the Tennessee Volunteer Fire Grant, administered by the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office, to purchase new SCBA equipment. We’re proud to share that we have now received 4 MSA G1 SCBA packs along with 8 additional 45-minute bottles, and they are beginning to go into service.

This equipment will replace outdated packs and provide our firefighters with safer, more reliable air packs while operating on emergency scenes. Investments like this directly improve firefighter safety and strengthen our ability to serve the community.

We’d like to thank the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance, and all elected officials who continue to support funding opportunities for volunteer fire departments across the state.

This is a major investment in the safety of our department and the community we proudly serve.
