Dresden Green-Way Park

Dresden Green-Way Park Developing Green-Way Park system. Dresden has successfully acquired the CSX property which runs across the middle of the city.

The railroad owned this property for the past 150 years and through extended talks agreed to sell the property to the city. We hope to develop this property, providing multiple areas for different uses. This project is in the planning stages and we hope everyone will find something of interest. Areas in current planning include a farmers market with a surrounding plaza, a neighborhood park set in

a quite area ideal for small gatherings, a festival park which will include an amphitheater with a capacity to handle large crowds and a wooded trail with a learning center and a skate park to provide thrills. All areas will be connected by a paved and lighted trail for walking and bicycling. The goal is to create a lifestyle enhancement for the citizens of Dresden and Weakley County which will be enjoyed for the next 150 years.

Construction workers with Universal Contractors of Union City were pouring and leveling concrete for the sidewalks and curbs being built in front of the Harmon and Lucile McWherter Senior Citizens Center in Dresden on Friday.

When completed, the walkway and crosswalk will connect to the walking trail being constructed on the south side of Evergreen Street, which will link Wilson Park with Dresden Farmers Market located in the Terry Oliver Plaza.

The Green-Way Park has great coverage in the latest editions of both the Dresden Enterprise and the Weakley County Press. You need to check them out. If you haven't taken a walk down the trial then there is no better place to enjoy the color show of leaves than on the Rail Trail. There is easy parking at the site of the Farmers Market Plaza at Linden and Jefferson Streets. You will find a level walk to the Festival Park area, around a half mile. When approaching the open field area you can take a side trip through the woods. An interesting piece of history; you can still see the home sites from the railroad workers who lived in small housing during their work shift.
